England Premier League
Tuesday 18th May 2021
Kick off at 6pm BST
Venue: Old Trafford
Match Preview:
Even though the Europa League final is 8 days away from the time of this match it is as clear as day that Manchester United’s sole focus is on it and has been for several weeks now. It is why manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer swerved the chance to challenge for the league title against Leicester to give City an earlier triumph. United followed that up with defeat against Liverpool at home, conceding 4 goals in that game.
It’s all very well to feel that you have to concentrate for the cup final match and right now a Europa League win would be huge for the club, one just has to wonder if these recent defeats will affect some of the team build up and confidence as the domestic season winds down.
With just 1 win in their last 4 games for United it means that they may end up relinquishing 2nd place although with a 4 point advantage to Leicester in 3rd they will still be the favourites to end the season as runner’s up. On Tuesday evening the club will face the already relegated Fulham and will be expected to earn all 3 points, which would also secure 2nd position. United have won 50% of their games at home but their two defeats last week were both home matches. Of course the club would have been aggrieved by their recent fixture congestion having to play last weekend, then on Tuesday and then on Thursday but coming into this game United had a 5 day break.
Fulham were relegated a few weeks ago and come into this game having lost 3 in a row. At the weekend the Cottagers were defeated 3-1 by Southampton and that was their 19th defeat of the season. Still Scott Parker’s side are in 18th place as West Bromwich Albion are on a poor run also. From the last 30 points Fulham have earned just 4 and the club has conceded 7 goals in their past three games.
Team News:
Manchester United: Daniel James has a knock but will be hopeful of returning for this game. Harry Maguire has an ankle injury and the defender won’t return for the league games as he aims to be ready for the Europa League final. Anthony Martial is out with his knee injury.
Fulham: Antonee Robinson is a major doubt with an ankle injury but may return at the weekend.
Man Utd vs Fulham Head to Head:
The last time the clubs played here was back in 2018 and Manchester United won 4-1.
In the reverse fixture earlier in the season United won 2-1.
Manchester United have scored 9 goals past Fulham in their last 3 league meetings.
Fulham have not beaten Manchester United in the league since 2009.
Man Utd vs Fulham Prediction:
You get the feeling that Manchester United are like a flat tire now and have no ambition to carry on. For sure the last two games of the season are just an obligation to play. That is a worry when the club are odds on to win this one. At the same time Fulham have been poor and have a terrible record at Old Trafford.
At odds of 1.30 not many people will be backing a home win so it is best to look for different markets. It is just very unsure on how United will start this game and perhaps there will be a few changes to the first team again. But for better value it would be worth backing United to be winning at half time.
The correct score is always fantastic value if hard to predict but on four occasions from the last 8 we have seen the home side beat Fulham either 2-0 or 3-0 and this could be worth adding to your choices for this game.
Man Utd vs Fulham Betting Tips:
