England Premier League
Saturday 6th February 2021
Kick off at 8pm GMT
Venue: Old Trafford
Match Preview:
Manchester United could go level on points with league leaders Manchester City with a win at the weekend albeit that City will be playing the next day and have a game in hand. However to keep in touch with their rivals United need to win this game.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team will be the favourites too and their last home game will be remembered for some time as they hammered Southampton 9-0. It was a fantastic game by the Red Devils and they were 4-0 up by half time. The players seemed to revel in it with some great goals and it just adds to the confidence at the club presently.
United’s recent form hasn’t been brilliant with 8 points earned from 15 and the draw at Arsenal and loss to Sheffield United were big points dropped. They are still in with a good shout of winning what would be a surprise title that few people saw coming though.
Everton can be quite unpredictable and do remain a danger in this game. In midweek they beat Leeds a side who a short while ago had beaten Everton in their own stadium. It was a much needed win for Everton though after losing at home to Newcastle where they were toothless and drawing against Leicester, all of a sudden there was a possibility to see Everton fall off the pace.
However the club are in 7th place with 36 points and have 2 games in hand over some teams above them including their fierce rivals Liverpool and in theory Everton would be 4th if they converted those games into wins. Everton have been very good away from home and have the 3rd best away record in the league. The club have won 7 games from 11 and have won their last 4 matches.
Team News:
Manchester United: Edinson Cavani will be assessed as he has an ankle injury. It is thought to be minor though and he has a chance to play. The club have no new injury concerns.
Everton: Allan could return from his hamstring injury and faces an assessment after he is back in training. Jordan Pickford is hopeful to return for this game after missing the last match due to a minor rib injury.
Man Utd vs Everton Head to Head:
Last season this fixture ended 1-1.
The last 3 league meetings have seen both teams to score.
Everton haven’t won away at Manchester United in the league since 2013.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Manchester United beat Everton 3-1.
Man Utd vs Everton Prediction:
Everton will be hoping that Edinson Cavani is ruled out only because he has scored against the club twice in as many games already. Make no mistake this is a very difficult game for Everton but like the visitors Manchester United can be unpredictable at times too, an example losing at home to Sheffield United recently.
One of the problems this talented Everton side have is an almost psychological problem in playing the really big teams. It’s been said in the past that even when Everton have looked like beating Liverpool they almost seem to not believe they can. The same can probably be said of Manchester United especially playing them away and Everton, one feels, would need to pull out something really special to get the job done.
It could be that Manchester United lost to Sheffield United because seeing that they were bottom of the league they believed this would be a game they could win in first gear. That won’t apply in this match United will know how dangerous Everton can be and will try and cut off supply to the attacking players and this could be a tough game for the visitors.
