England Premier League
Thursday 28th April 2022
Kick off at 7:45pm BST
Venue: Old Trafford
Match Preview:
The one league game in the Premier League during midweek will see these two huge sides meet and even though in the past they have had more to fight for this should still be an entertaining game.
A top four finish for Manchester United looks over now but the club will not be giving up just yet. However the reality is that Ralf Rangnick’s side are in 6th place and six points behind 4th placed Arsenal, the Gunners have also played a game less. Form for the Red Devils coming into this game is poor with 3 defeats from their last four, and last weekend despite putting in a good performance they were beaten 3-1 away to Arsenal. Consistency has been the problem for United and life has not been good under Rangnick. It is no surprise then to learn that Ajax’s Erik ten Hag will be taking over the managers job next season.
At home United recently have done well and that includes wins over Norwich, Tottenham and Brighton. There are goals in the team of late but they have been a side who have not been able to compete with the better teams and that is the test they will get on Thursday night.
Chelsea will be aware that their 3rd place is under threat from Arsenal who are 5 points behind them, though the Blues will still be favourites to finish in this position. Any thoughts that at one time Chelsea would finish outside of the top four where quashed last weekend when they beat West Ham 1-0 to win their 19th game of the season. The Blues have been inconsistent lately and home form has suffered so they may be happy to play away. On the road Thomas Tuchel’s side have won their last 4 and that includes beating Southampton in their last away game 6-0. Chelsea have the 2nd best away record in the league and have only lost two times, winning 36 points from a possible 48.

Man Utd vs Chelsea Prediction:
We keep talking about last throws of the dice for United in terms of them finishing in 4th place. Because Arsenal and Tottenham have dropped points in some recent games United have had some slim hopes of finishing fourth but it more or less ends if they fail to win this game. United need a huge performance here and Rangnick will be banking on his side to play as well as they did against Arsenal. The defeat to the Gunners was quite harsh with all of the decisions in the game and had Bruno Fernandes scored their penalty we could have been looking at a very different game.
Chelsea will get 3rd place and will certainly qualify for next seasons Champions League which is their objective. They still have the FA Cup final too. The Blues have a poor record at Old Trafford but we feel they are the stronger team currently and will back them for the win but with the draw covered on the refund. Also, it wouldn't surprise us to see both teams get on the scoresheet.
