Man Utd vs Chelsea: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 28th April 2019
Kick off at 4.30pm BST
Venue: Old Trafford

Match Preview:

What a fantastic day of football fixtures it is in the Premier League on Sunday and the matches are rounded up with Manchester United and Chelsea, the two best teams in Europe 11 years ago - both contested the Champions League final where United won on penalties. But today both teams feel like also rans. Still this is a massive fixture for both with the loser in theory looking like they will miss out on a top 4 place.

United are under serious pressure after losing back to back games against Everton and Manchester City but it is the nature in how they have lost those games that has put the pressure on the team. Much of it to manager Ole Gunnar’s Solskjaer’s relief is not being aimed at him but at the players. Maybe Mourinho should have had a similar level of support but it is clear that there will be many changes in the summer.

Right now United need 3 points, they have lost 3 from their last 4 games and are in 6th place with 64 points. A win here would make them join Chelsea on 67 but they would be behind on goal difference. Both teams will also be hoping that Arsenal drop points earlier in the day against Leicester.

Chelsea have their Europa League semi-final against Eintract Frankfurt on their minds but at the same time the match isn’t until Thursday. The Blues like United have not been in good form - losing against Liverpool away from home is one thing but they could only draw 2-2 with Burnley at home, which was seen as a poor result for the club.

Team News:

Manchester United: Ander Herrera is set to return after recovering from his muscle injury. Phil Jones has a knock and is 50/50 to make the game. Scott McTominay has fitness issues ahead of the game and will be assessed

Chelsea: The big news for Chelsea is that Callum Hudosn-Odoi has been ruled out for the rest of the season with an achilles injury, which is a huge blow for the club. Marcos Alonso could make a return but no updates have been given on the player who has looked injury free. N’Golo Kante remains a doubt with a rib injury and is 50/50 to make the game

Man Utd vs Chelsea Head to Head:

Earlier in the season the teams drew 2-2 at Stamford Bridge.

Last season Manchester United won this fixture 2-1.

Chelsea have not won at Old Trafford since 2013.

Man Utd vs Chelsea Prediction:

This is Manchester United’s last chance to get a top 4 place, while Chelsea could slip up and still have an extra life so to speak. But looking at both of the teams they have similar form and outlooks but with United being at home and with Chelsea genuinely struggling away from home our bet here is to see United get the win. The worry is that how many players are now behind Solsjkaer, it is questionable and he will know that there will be players starting this game that are not in his plans for next season. If some loyalty can be shown we know how good this United side can be.

One eye should be on Romelu Lukaku who is not scoring goals - perhaps doing so against his former side can kick start his season as it reaches the final furlong.

Man Utd vs Chelsea Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (0.0 Man Utd) at 1.950

Anytime goalscorer: Romelu Lukaku at 2.50

Correct Score: Manchester United to win 2-0 at 13.00
