Man Utd vs Chelsea: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 24th October 2020
Kick off at 5:30pm BST
Venue: Old Trafford

Match Preview:

Whilst it hasn’t been a great start to the season for Manchester United they have still shown signs of how good they can be and remain a threat for any side trying to finish in the top four.

From their 4 games played they have won two and lost two and the club will need to find some sort of consistency to save manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s job. You just don’t know what type of performance you will get week in and week out at United in the present day. Just a couple of weeks ago the Red Devils lost 6-1 at home against Tottenham and yet in midweek they went to PSG who reached the Champions League final and beat them 2-1. This win followed on from a 4-1 win up at Newcastle in the league and perhaps the clubs fortunes will swing around now.

Still, United enter this game in 15th place with six points although they would go past Chelsea who are in 8th place with a win at the weekend. Solskjaer has a good record against Frank Lampard and he will be hoping to continue that.

Chelsea have been involved in two 3-3 games recently. One worked out for them as they came back against West Bromwich Albion from 3-0 down but in their last game they blew a win as Southampton claimed a draw.

The feeling is that Chelsea can be very strong this season though with so many new players having to gel it could take another six weeks until we see Chelsea in full flow and because of that they have dropped points that maybe we wouldn’t have expected.

In midweek the Blues played in the Champions League where they drew 0-0 at home against Sevilla. Whilst Lampard was delighted with the clean sheet, which was encouraging it was still points dropped at home in a group that could be tricky. Chelsea have won just 1 game in the league in their last four and are 5 points behind the current leaders Everton.

Man Utd vs Chelsea Prediction:

Manchester United needed to react after their 6-1 loss against Tottenham at home and putting 4 goals past Newcastle and then beating PSG in Paris goes a long way to getting over that result.

The club will be determined to get a decent result when they return back home for this game. Chelsea are a difficult opponent but could well be the right one for United who have enjoyed a lot of success over them. Although the last time the teams met was in July when Chelsea knocked Manchester United out of the FA Cup winning that game 3-1.

On form United can win this game but with the quality of both sides it could go either way. Chelsea will have their moments but they still look like a work in progress, which makes them unpredictable, therefore we will stick to the goals markets as we feel there could well be a few in this game.
