Match Preview:

The only Premier League game in midweek will see Manchester United take on Brighton and there has been increasing pressure on the way United have been performing in recent weeks and fans will want to see a good showing.

Ralf Rangnick has only lost 1 league game in charge of United but here we have a club who are consistently not putting in good performances, are drawing too many games and are being constantly pegged back after taking the lead. The Red Devils have drawn their last two games which came against Burnley and Southampton and one would be expecting a team with this quality to be winning those, but it has been a theme this season. Rangnick has been brought in for the rest of the season but had he impressed there were mentions that he could become the full time manager next season, on this evidence that looks very uncertain.

However United’s objective will be to finish in the top 4 and that project is still alive. The club are in 5th place and would move 2 points clear of West Ham who are currently in 4th with victory here. That’s the good news and the Hammers would also have played the same games. The bad news is that Arsenal who could be 4 points behind United by Tuesday evening would have 3 games in hand and also Wolves are emerging as a contender as it looks like Tottenham could be dropping off after their recent form.

Brighton have gone their last 7 games unbeaten but have picked up many draws along the way which is clearly holding them back for a possible European place. The club have drawn 3 of their last four games although at the weekend Graham Potter’s side picked up their seventh win of the season as they beat Watford 2-0 away from home. On the road the Seagulls have lost just one game but have drawn 7 from 12 games played. They have had some good results recently though, beating Everton and drawing against Chelsea. The club have good motivation for this game and would move into 8th place ahead of Tottenham on goal difference with a win. 

Team News: 

Manchester United: Eric Bailly is getting better from his ankle injury but remains a big doubt for this game. Edinson Cavani should return at the weekend from his groin injury but this game will come too soon for the striker. Nemanja Matic is ruled out with a shin injury. 

Brighton: Enock Mwepu is out with his hamstring and Jeremy Sarimento is out until May also with his hamstring.

Brighton had never won at Goodison Park and they won that day, Brighton have never won at Old Trafford- football has so many patterns and it should be noted that Potter’s team are as much as 4.75 to win this game.

United need to put in a performance that crushes the opposition and shows some belief again. The home fans who have now been booing Rangnick would quickly get behind the team again. United are not playing like a team but Brighton are and so were Southampton at the weekend even if they don’t share the same technical qualities that United have. Where has Cristiano Ronaldo been the last two months? True he can’t score all the time but his body language does not look good, would it be a surprise if he was to leave the club at the end of the season?

Considering how unconvincing Man Utd are playing and how well Brighton are playing, the odds on Brighton look very good value. Therefore we will back the away side on a very helpful handicap.
