Man Utd vs Brentford: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 7th October 2023
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Old Trafford

Match Preview:

Manchester United have had some moments to truly forget over the last ten years and the last month has certainly been one of them. Two opening group game defeats in the Champions League has put their knockout chances on thin ice and they have also lost 3 of their last four games. What feels so damning about this season is that United are losing too many games at home; they have lost to Brighton and Crystal Palace consecutively here.

In midweek United lost 3-2 against Galatasarey to compound matters and yet again Casemiro saw red. The Red Devils have fallen to 10th place and have 9 points and are already the same number behind league leaders and their nearest rivals Manchester City.

Brentford have fallen to 14th place and after a positive start they have no wins in their last five games and have earned just 3 points. The Bees last game ended in a 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest but this hasn’t been the greatest of starts for Thomas Frank’s side. On the plus side is that they are scoring goals and have 10 so far but we have to be cautious and remind ourselves that the defence has also leaked the same number of goals. For now Brentford look stable but it could go either way and they will need to start winning games.

Team News:

Man Utd vs Brentford Prediction:

Manchester United are going to have to learn perhaps how to win ugly. The current system should be working because Ten Hag has had a year in the job to figure it out but United are heading in the wrong direction. They have more than enough quality to win this game but there has to be plenty of doubts about a side who have looked very weak at home. Even in the two games that they have won here they have looked average and you just wonder if United have hit their personal bottom and it will get better or is there more to come?

One is reminded of Chelsea and Liverpool from last season the way United keep churning out such poor results given the infrastructure, budget and the team they have. There is a distinct difference with the comparison to Liverpool though because the Reds maintained solid home form.

We will with some risk back United not because Brentford are a poor side but because their personal form seems to have hit a wall and it doesn’t seem possible for them to come away to United and figure out their problems and correct them in 90 minutes in Manchester. Normally you’d get 1.50 on a home win here but United’s erratic form has pushed them out a bit more, so we will take that for minimum stakes.
