Man Utd vs Aston Villa: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Friday 1st January 2021
Kick off at 8pm GMT
Venue: Old Trafford

Match Preview:

It almost felt expected this season that Manchester United would blow hot and cold, a few players would fall out with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and he would be sacked by Christmas, but United with obvious tireless work behind the scenes have surprised many after a slow start and have in fact been one of the best sides in the league so far in this campaign.

Currently Manchester United are 2nd in the league but they could go level on points with Liverpool if they beat Aston Villa on Friday evening. They won’t go into 1st place unless they win by 9-0 but the fact that United have a genuine chance to win the league title is all that counts.

Form is good with 3 wins from their last four and United are unbeaten for 2 months. Their last match ended in a 1-0 victory over Wolves. Home form has improved and the club have gone their last 4 games without defeat here.

Aston Villa are unbeaten home and away for a month and they are in 5th place and 4 points behind their hosts. However Dean Smith’s side has a game in hand over United and like their opponents they have really surprised this season. Villa used their credentials once again to go to Chelsea and come back from a goal down to draw 1-1 in their last match and they have picked up 11 points with no defeats from their last 15 available.

The plaudits continue away from home where Smith’s side have lost just once and have the 3rd best away record in the league. They have had a mean defence on the road too conceding just 3 goals so far.

Team News:

Manchester United: Victor Lindelof remains just 50/50 to return with his back injury, Marcos Rojo is out for at least another 3 weeks with a calf injury.

Aston Villa: Ross Barkley is edging closer to a return and will be assessed. Trezeguet is out long term with a hamstring injury.

Man Utd vs Aston Villa Head to Head:

This match finished 2-2 last season.

Aston Villa haven’t won away at Manchester United in the league since 2009.

There is a 70% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Man Utd vs Aston Villa Prediction:

This has an open game written all over it as Aston Villa likely will not be afraid to go full out and attack. At the same time Leeds tried that the other week against United and lost 6-2.

Aston Villa remain the danger to the top sides as everything could change very quickly if they take advantage of their games in hand and continue their consistency. Many will be expecting Manchester United to win this game though that is far from certain but if their midfield click and the club control the pace of the game we are looking at a likely win. Even new signing Edinson Cavani is rolling back the years with his goal scoring instincts and Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba are finding form too.

One can be cautious about a United side who have shown brilliant form in 2020 and also very poor, but the beginning of a new year and playing at home should see all three points going to Solskjaer’s players. For the neutral this should be a very enthralling encounter.

Man Utd vs Aston Villa Betting Tips:
