Match Preview:
Pride is a word that comes to mind when thinking of Manchester United, and how do they approach this game, how does a once great side who may not even qualify for any European competition next season approach this game? If Manchester United turn up and play their best game they could beat Arsenal, and that would give every advantage to their bitter rivals Manchester City to go on and win a record 4th league title in a row which has never been done ever before in top flight English football. However the facts remain that even if United do not put in a performance they are much poorer this season than Arsenal anyway and yet maybe this is a fixture where you could expect the Gunners to slip up, but that word pride comes back, just how will this game play out?
Let’s start with Manchester United who were thrashed 4-0 on Monday evening away to Crystal Palace. Granted the club are suffering from a spate of injuries but can still have the power to put out a strong side, a strong side yes but with weak minds and tactics. One has to wonder if United were not about to contest an FA Cup final would their manager have survived this season and been sacked by now? Recent results has been dogged with draws but it is just one win in their past five games and even 19th placed Burnley came here in United’s last home game and got a 1-1 draw. Chelsea are ahead on goal difference over United for a possible final European place with 54 points. At home United has won 9 games and they are unbeaten in their last four.
By the time this game kicks off Arsenal will know how Manchester City have done. The worst case scenario is that the Gunners are in 2nd place and two points behind, that means that even a draw would basically finish the Gunners off, they must win. Arsenal are in good form and scoring goals and they have won their last four games in a row. Arsenal’s latest victory was an easy 3-0 win at home to Bournemouth but their last away win was an impressive 3-2 victory over their nemesis Tottenham. The scoreline glossed over the game and the Gunners were leading 3-0 for a long period. Coming into this weekend Arsenal had the best away record having won 39 points from 54 on offer and have lost just three times. Arsenal has won their last three away games in a row scoring 8 goals in those games.
Team News:
Manchester United: Bruno Fernandes will be assessed for a knock, Jonny Evans has recovered from injury but has a lack of match fitness but he is thought to be very close to a return. Marcus Rashford remains a doubt with a knock, Anthony Martial is unlikely to be back as he is suffering from fitness issues but has a chance to be assessed. Raphael Varane, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire are all out long term.
Arsenal: The Gunners have no injury concerns coming into this game.
Man Utd vs Arsenal Head to Head:
Last season Manchester United won this fixture 3-1.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Arsenal won 3-1.
Arsenal have won 3 of the last four meetings.
Since 2006 Arsenal have only won once at Manchester United in the league, this was in 2020 when due to the pandemic the game had to be played behind closed doors.
Man Utd vs Arsenal Prediction:
Arsenal find it very difficult to win away to Manchester United and normally we would think that United would be the banana skin for the Gunners. But of course with their arch rivals going for the league and the fact United may have more focus on the FA Cup final we’re not quite sure what performance we will see here? United look weak and it seems a hard stretch to think that Arsenal cannot come here with all of these circumstances at hand and not win the game. We think Mikel Arteta’s side has a fantastic opportunity to record a rare win at this ground and they are decent odds. Expect fouls and cards to fly in a fixture that is always surrounded by controversy and moments.
