Man Utd vs Arsenal: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 1st November 2020
Kick off at 4:30pm GMT
Venue: Old Trafford

Match Preview:

Even though both of these famous clubs are not at their peak years this is still one of the biggest clashes in English football and we should be treated to a very open and intense game of football on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester United have been hitting all the right notes in Europe but domestically they have turned in some very odd results. Their last home game ended in a 6-1 defeat against Tottenham and indeed they are yet to win at Old Trafford this season in the league. United have already conceded 9 goals here and come into this game in 15th place and six points behind the league leaders Everton.

The good news for United is they were able to hold off Chelsea last weekend as that game finished 0-0. It was important to keep a clean sheet against the quality in Frank Lampard’s side and perhaps there is more of a calmness around United now after their 6-1 loss to Tottenham where manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would have been hearing a sharpening of the knives and a rustle of his P45 papers.

No one is saying it but Arsenal haven’t put in one good performance in the league so far. However, like United the Gunners have been impressing in Europe and in midweek they beat Dundalk 3-0 and they look like they will sail into the knock out stages of the Europa League.

Back to the Premier League though and last weekend Arsenal lost their first game at home against Leicester 1-0. The club dominated the game having double figures in chances and yet were undone yet again by Jamie Vardy. One can then look at the clubs past victories and see that their 2-1 wins over Sheffield United and West Ham were actualy quite lucky and that those results could have also gone a different way. Under Mikel Arteta Arsenal are improving but the feeling is that there is much more work to be done at the club.

The Gunners have slipped down to 11th place and have lost 3 of their last four games, this probably isn’t the best time for them to be facing Manchester United away from home. Still a win could see the club move into the top six so there really is all to play for.

Team News:

Manchester United: Eric Bailly is ill and won’t be back for at least three weeks. Alex Telles has Coronavirus and will miss this game. Anthony Martial is suspended for 3 games after his red card.

Arsenal: Rob Holding has a hamstring injury and is expected to miss the next three weeks. David Luiz is only 50/50 to make this game after picking up a thigh injury he will face a late test.

Man Utd vs Arsenal Head to Head:

Last season the clubs drew 1-1 in this fixture.

Manchester United have no wins in the last 4 league games against Arsenal.

3 of the last seven meetings has ended in the correct score of 2-0 and on all those occasions it has been for Arsenal.

Manchester United have not beaten Arsenal when at home in the league since 2016.

Man Utd vs Arsenal Prediction:

These are two clubs that you would like to bang their heads together and give a slap on the wrist too. Two powerhouses that have by and large underperformed for a few seasons now.

Still a rivarly exists and we expect this match to be an entertaining one. Though Arsenal have the upper edge in recent games we think United has no choice but to put their marker down and get a result at the weekend but will they be able to? Beating lower class teams in the Europa League isn’t going to cut it and they need to be winning these games especially at home. Arsenal remains a dangerous opponent of course but the club have shown no signs that they can come to a side like United and pull off a win.
