England Premier League
Saturday 11th December 2021
Kick off at 12:30pm GMT
Venue: Etihad Stadium
Match Preview:
Manchester City are playing like champions and last weekend they finally reached the summit and are now in 1st place. City have won their last five games in a row in the Premier League and one has to wonder is this just the start of a big run or will City lose a few games that no one is expecting. Case in point when they lost at home to Crystal Palace in October or drew 0-0 at home against Southampton. But all in all Pep Guardiola’s team are looking incredibly strong.
City’s last game ended in a 3-1 victory over Watford and their last home game witnessed a 2-1 win over West Ham. In midweek City would be left disappointed as they lost 2-1 away to RB Leipzig in the Champions League but it didn’t matter as the game was a dead rubber for the club who had already qualified as group winners. However Kyle Walker was sent off in that game which means he will miss the knock out stage of the competition and that would have been frustrating for the club.
Wolves are in 8th place and the good form the club had produced in October and November is threatening to be tested in these winter months. Bruno Lage’s side have now gone their last 3 games without a win. This includes two 0-0 games against Norwich and Burnley respectively. It seemed as if Wolves were going to record a third straight 0-0 result when they played Liverpool last weekend but the Reds scored deep into injury time and one has to wonder if that has affected the players coming into this game. Against Liverpool you have to work hard to keep a clean sheet and Wolves were seconds away from doing so.
On the road Lage’s team have been solid and in fact have the 5th best record in the league with 11 points won from a possible 21 but they have not recorded a win since mid October when they beat Aston Villa.
Team News:
Manchester City: Phil Foden has just come back from injury but he has aggravated his ankle and will have to be assessed. Gabriel Jesus has a knock which forced him to miss the game in midweek and he will also be assessed. Nathan Ake has a back injury but it isn’t currently known how serious it is, he hasn’t been ruled out of this game but must be considered a doubt. Ferran Torres is ruled out with a foot injury.
Wolves: Rayan Ait Nouri will face an assessment as he has a knock. Marcal is in line to return after his illness. Pedro Neto was due back but he hasn’t returned as of yet from his knee injury. Yerson Mosquera and Jonny are out long term.
Man City vs Wolves Head to Head:
Last season this fixture finished 4-1 to Manchester City.
From the last 5 games Wolves have won three of them.
There is a 50% chance to see over 3.5 goals.
Man City vs Wolves Prediction:
Manchester City are huge odds on to win this game so nobody is going to be touching them here. The worry for Wolves is that they have gone their last 3 games without scoring a goal, and City are playing good football and nullifying opponents. It’s not like City are destroying teams but they are doing enough to strangle the game from the opposiiton. Playing City you’re concentration levels have to be at 110%, because you play the game without the ball and you’d have to fear for Wolves here if City start the game strongly.
Having climbed to the top of the league standings they won’t want to relinquish that immediately and we can only see a home victory here, but with the prices being quoted we should be looking into different markets. What we have noticed is that Ilkay Gundogan isn’t afraid to come forward and with Ferran Torres out and Gabriel Jesus a doubt there will be lack of options up front and he should be backed to score again.
Man City vs Wolves Betting Tips:
Over 2.5 goals at 1.50
Anytime goalscorer: Ilkay Gundogan at 2.75
