England Premier League
Sunday 28th November 2021
Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: Etihad Stadium
Match Preview:
Manchester City come into this game having just kept PSG relatively quiet in their Champions League group game as City won 2-1. City advanced as group winners as a result and they have been pretty flawless this season.
Of course there have been hiccups, the dropped points at home to both Southampton and Crystal Palace but in City we have a team that can win 10 games on a row- and they know it. The mood in the camp will be upbeat as they prepare for this tricky game against an in form West Ham team. But there are goals in this City team and a real belief that they can win back to back titles once more.
City will have the motivation to win so that they can claim back 2nd place from Liverpool and of course keep in touch with Chelsea.
West Ham have been superb and in midweek they topped their group in the Europa League as they beat Rapid Vienna. The Hammers are in 4th place and even with a win will probably stay in that position but what a victory and a statement it would be to beat the champions.
In recent weeks West Ham have already delivered a defeat to Liverpool the 2020 champions, and the club are playing their best football under manager David Moyes in a generation. However a 4 game winning run did come to an end last weekend as they lost 1-0 away to Wolves.
The Hammers have actually picked up more points away from home than at home and have the 3rd best record on the road this season. The good news for the club is that their defeat against Wolves was their first away defeat of the season.
Team News:
Manchester City: Kevin De Bruyne has Covid-19 and is ruled out of this game as he is in isolation. Phil Foden has a knock but is being tipped to be fine for this game and will be assessed. Jack Grealish is 50/50 to return for this game after his recent knock. Ferran Torres is out until January with a foot injury.
West Ham: Angelo Ogbonna is out long term with a knee injury, there are no other injuries for the club ahead of this game.
Man City vs West Ham Head to Head:
Last season Manchester City won this fixture 2-1.
From the last 14 games West Ham have only beaten Manchester City once and that was in this season’s EFL Cup and on a penalty shoot-out.
There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.
Man City vs West Ham Prediction:
With the Champions League out of the way now Manchester City can focus completely on the Premier League until the new year. City looked brilliant in midweek as they strangled and seized the game from PSG, and even if PSG have the better players than West Ham the Hammers will be expected to give City more of a game.
West Ham will come forward and take risks and they need to set up their game to get close to City and make life difficult for the favourites. But we do not expect to see a surprise result here and City should have too much in the end for the Hammers, in a game that could pass them by. Not many will be backing City at odds of around 1.30 so it may be worth dipping into different markets.
