Man City vs West Ham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 27th February 2021
Kick off at 12:30pm GMT
Venue: Etihad Stadium

Match Preview:

Manchester City will be attempting to win their 19th game of the season and they will be odds on favourites to do just that as they face West Ham at home, In midweek City’s winning run continued as they beat Borussia Monchengladbach 2-0 in the 1st leg of their Champions League match. That result means that the club are likely to make it into the quarter finals.

Pep Guardiola’s side actually look like they are cruising to another Premier League title and are 10 points clear of both Manchester United and Leicester. Last weekend City beat Arsenal and the clubs last game at home ended in a 3-0 win over Tottenham. Indeed this match will be City’s first at the Etihad since February 13th. At home City have the best record in the league earning 29 points from a possible 36 with just one defeat and they are scoring on average 2 goals per game at home.

West Ham have been superb and David Moyes has done a remarkable job at the club this season. The Hammers are in 4th place and every fan of the club would love the season to end right now. Who could have imagined that the Hammers have a chance for a top 4 finish at the start of the season?

Of course this is the Premier League and it only takes a 2-3 game poor run to be out of contention and West Ham will understand that, this will be one of their toughest games of their season. Still West Ham come into this game unbeaten in their last four and that includes wins over Tottenham, Aston Villa and Sheffield United. The club are 2 points clear of Chelsea and away from home the Hammers have the sixth best record having earned 21 points from a possible 36. The clubs last away game ended 0-0 against Fulham.

Team News:

Manchester City: The club have no new injuries ahead of this encounter.

West Ham: The Hammers have no new injuries but Angelo Ogbonna is out long term and Andriy Yarmolenko has a knee injury and is a major doubt for this duel.

Man City vs West Ham Head to Head:

Last season this fixture ended 2-0 to Manchester City.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture this game finished 1-1. Before that fixture Manchester City had won the last 8 league meetings in a row.

West Ham last won at Manchester City in the league in 2015 after a 2-1 victory.

There is a 70% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Man City vs West Ham Prediction:

Manchester City are around 1.20 at best for the win and not many punters will be backing them for a straight victory. City have been solid in the last couple of months which no one can deny but they are not scoring nearly as many goals as they have in the past. Of course the club have had some issues up front and Sergio Aguero has missed vital games too.

West Ham have played good football and have a big belief in themselves and they won’t come here like in other seasons full of trepidation, make no mistake Moyes would have told them to enjoy themselves. Everyone expects the Hammers to lose the game but Moyes’ job will have to be to frustrate City and, if they do lose, to not concede too many goals.

In some ways this match feels closer than it should do because West Ham have done so well and one is probably waiting on City simply too drop points. But they are at home and we don’t expect to see that this weekend.
