Man City vs West Ham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Wednesday 27th February 2019
Kick off at 8pm GMT
Venue: Etihad Stadium

Match Preview:

After winning the Carabao Cup on Sunday it’s back to Premier League battle for Manchester City on Wednesday night when they will face West Ham at The Etihad and be odds on favourites to win the game.

Because City didn’t play in the league at the weekend it meant that Liverpool could play their game in hand and The Reds who have not won the title since 1990 are 1 point in front of City.

Pep Guardiola’s side have been in superb form lately in the league, putting six goals past Chelsea, beating Arsenal 3-1 and beating Everton away from home. They have won their last 3 games in a row and at home they have the best record in the league with 39 points won from a total of 42. This is a must win game and the club still need to play catch up with Liverpool.

West Ham have moved up to 9th place after going their last 3 games unbeaten, although just one of those was a win, which was against Fulham last weekend. The Hammers are now in the hunt for 7th place.

The bad news for Manuel Pellegrini’s side is that they have not won away for 4 games, with their last victory coming before New Year. Their last away game ended in a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace.

Team News:

Manchester City: Fernandinho is out with a muscle injury and is expected to miss 2-3 weeks. Gabriel Jesus has a hamstring injury but could be assessed before this game. Aymeric Laporte has a muscle injury and is out. Benjamin Mendy has a 50/50 chance because of a lack of match fitness. John Stones could be back in the squad after his groin injury

West Ham: The Hammers have no new injuries coming into this game

Man City vs West Ham Head to Head:

Manchester City beat West Ham 4-1 in the earlier season fixture.

Manchester City have won 7 games in a row v West Ham.

In the last 6 games Manchester City have scored 22 goals against West Ham.

There is a 90% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Man City vs West Ham Prediction:

Manchester City should have few problems in winning this game given West Ham’s rather poor recent away record. But they can be quoted at around 1.10 to do so, so there is simply no value to be had. There is slightly better value to go for the half time/full time City leading with the real risk being that City will need to start bright- and they should be able to do this. In all of City’s 7 wins in a row over West Ham they have been leading at half time, so that is worth considering and it will be our main pick for this game.

Man City vs West Ham Betting Tips:

Half Time/Full Time: Manchester City/Manchester City at 1.50

Anytime goalscorer: Raheem Sterling at 1.91

Over 3.5 goals at 1.90
