England Premier League
Wednesday 3rd May 2023
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: Etihad Stadium
Match Preview:
Manchester City will know a little bit better how the league is shaping up by the time this game kicks off. If Arsenal have lost against Chelsea then City will still be in 1st place by a point but have 2 games in hand. The worst case scenario for them would be an Arsenal win which would put the Gunners back on top by 2 points but City would still be in command of the league, however any dropped points here and perhaps some doubts would creep in.
This isn’t a good time to be playing the champions though who have been relentless lately and have won their last 9 games in a row, and that is why they are the champions. At the weekend their frantic goalscoring was calmed down by Fulham but City still found enough to win the game 2-1 and Erling Haaland scored his 50th goal of the season in all competitions. At home City have lost just one game and won 14 of 16 played and are scoring 3 goals per game here on average. City have scored 11 goals in their last 3 home games and that includes destroying Liverpool 4-1 and smashing Arsenal 4-1, right now they look frankly unstoppable,
West Ham are not quite out of the woods when it comes to relegation fears although with 34 points they would need just one more win and that should secure their safety for this season. The Hammers had found good form in April just when it mattered but they come into this game having lost their last two. First Liverpool beat them 2-1 and then in an exciting game David Moyes side lost 4-3 to Crystal Palace. Away form has seen just three wins so far and 10 defeats however the good news is that two of those wins have come in their last three away games with victories over Fulham and Bournemouth. Moyes' side will be motivated even if the odds are stacked against them as they would also move into 14th place and past Wolves with a win.
Team News:
Manchester City: Only Nathan Ake is a concern for the champions and he is likely to miss out again with a hamstring injury.
West Ham: Gianluca Scamacca remains sidelined with a knee injury with no fixed return date.
Man City vs West Ham Head to Head:
Last season Manchester City won this fixture 2-1.
It’s been seven years since West Ham last beat Manchester City in the league, although it was at the Etihad.
Manchester City have won 13 of the last 16 meetings.
Man City vs West Ham Prediction:
To their credit West Ham have played good football at times and it’s a wonder that the club have struggled for survival for much of the season. There are rumours that David Moyes will be replaced in the summer and yet everytime it has seemed that the Hammers are going to go on a bad run they seem to dig themselves out of it and pick up the wins. West Ham have recorded some decent losses over City and while that line may seem strange it doesn’t when referencing City who can score 4 or 5 goals against any side in the league. West Ham’s recent defeats have been narrow and City will be well aware of that.
We can’t see past City, but at the same time if Arsenal lose we may see a more relaxed passage of play rather than the relentless one we have seen lately. City are too much odds on to be backing them for the straight win so let’s look into different markets and as usual we will be heading that up with the one and only Erling Haaland as he continues to try and break records, he needs one more goal break the all time Premier League season goalscoring record, who would bet against him he doesn’t get it in this game?
