Man City vs West Brom: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Tuesday 15th December 2020
Kick off at 8pm GMT
Venue: Etihad Stadium

Match Preview:

No one likes seeing managers get sacked but one has to wonder if this will be the game where Slaven Bilic the West Bromwich Albion manager will be packing his bags?

It is a huge and obviously very difficult game for the Baggies and even if Manchester City are not looking as strong as they did in 2019 you would think that Pep Guardiola’s team have more than enough to get the three points and several goals in this match at home.

Manchester City played out a dire 0-0 draw with local rivals Manchester United at the weekend and it is a result that means City come into this game in 9th place, although they have a game in hand over most of the teams above them, win that and in theory they would be in sixth place.

Recent form for City has not been good by their usual standards and from their last five games they have earned 8 points. At home they have won 3 of 5 games and lost once but they have gone their last four matches at the Etihad unbeaten and their last game finished in a 2-0 win over Fulham.

West Bromwich Albion are showing quite a lot of fight even if they are in 19th place and have won just once so far. But they keep losing matches in the last ten minutes and that has to be frustrating for Bilic.

The Baggies have lost four of their 5 games and away from home they have picked up just 1 point from their last 18 available. That includes losing their last three away games.

Team News:

Manchester City: Sergio Aguero could return after an illness and he is being tipped to be fine but will face a late test. Eric Garcia is out with a leg injury and isn’t expected back for another 2-3 weeks.

West Bromwich Albion: CMatheus Pereira is serving a 3 game ban and misses this match. Hal Robson-Kanu isn’t expected back until next weekend with his wrist injury. Conor Townsend has a knee injury and is expected back in 2-3 weeks.

Man City vs West Brom Head to Head:

The teams haven’t played here since 2018 when the game ended 3-0 to Manchester City.

Manchester City have won the last 14 meetings in a row.

Manchester City have scored 15 goals in their last five meetings with West Bromwich Albion.

Man City vs West Brom Prediction:

It seems likely that only two things can happen in this game. Manchester City score many goals in an easy home victory or City are made to work for their win, make heavy weather of proceedings and win 2-0, like Burnley and like Fulham respectively.

With all due respect to West Brom there just doesn’t seem an option that ticks away win or even a draw. The club do not turn up and get rolled over but the difference in quality is too much even for a strange season like this one where we have witnessed some interesting results.

We must remember despite their defeats West Brom are not conceding a huge amount of goals. Yes they have shipped 25 so far and that is the most in the league, but it still averages out to 2 per game. City apart from the Burnley game are not hitting teams for big scores, however this one could be large.
