England Premier League
Sunday 4th November 2018
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Etihad Stadium
Match Preview:
Manchester City are where manager Pep Guardiola wants them to be, top of the league and it is clear as it has always been in Guardiola’s managerial career that 2nd place equals failure. City have looked back to their title winning best ever since they lost to Lyon in the Champions League, that was there wake up call and on Sunday they will invite Southampton to the Etihad and as usual will start as the favourites to win.
Last weekend City went to Wembley on a terrible pitch and beat Tottenham 1-0 which was a massive win against a direct top 5 rival. But the wins need to continue as Liverpool are on the same points (26) as them and it is only goal difference that sets the teams apart.
City have a 100% record at home, played 5 and won 5, and keeping with that figure they beat Burnley 5-0 the last time they played here. They have scored 18 goals which is the most by any side at home in the league and have conceded just 2, there is nothing we can critique the club on when they play in front of their home fans.
Southampton will play in a professional manner but manager Mark Hughes has probably written this game off already and will be thinking about the break coming up and fixtures in late November.
The Saints are just two points from the bottom three and come into this game having drawn their last two matches. But here is the worrying statistic; Southampton have not scored for the last 5 games and that dates back too September 17th. Are we to believe that statistic will drastically change away to the champions?
Away form is poor with just 1 win from 5 games played and they are winless for their past 3 matches.
