Here we go again as these two teams meet for the 2^nd time this week after Manchester City knocked Southampton out of the Carabao Cup winning 3-1.

You have to believe that losing 3-1 away to City was slight relief for Southampton after last weekend’s terrible result against Leicester where the Saints were destroyed 9-0. That set a Premier League away record win and it was at least nice to see the squad give up their day’s wages for charity.

Southampton are in 18^th place with 8 points and have already conceded 25 goals, if they are to recover it surely won’t be this weekend. The game will all be about damage limitation like their cup match and then about moving onto the next game. Their away form is much better than their home where they have earned 7 of their 8 points on the road. Their last away match ended 1-1 against Wolves and they have lost just once in their last 4 games.

Manchester City played a strong side in midweek but Pep Guardiola will play his full side in this league game where they trail Liverpool by six points. City have won 4 of their last five games but have earned just 10 points from their last 15 at home, that’s a great record for most clubs but could be slightly worrying for City at this early stage after dropping points here to Tottenham and Wolves.

The one good moment for the away side is that they have been able to stay in Manchester this week and be better prepared for the game but it shouldn’t make much of a difference and we expect City could score quite a few goals here. The Saints will defend and rarely come out to attack, again this is about damage limitation. City will be eyeing their Champions League match next week and will not want this game to turn into a physical one, this is about getting the job done before half time and we think they will be too overwhelming for this Saints side who have had their fill of playing the champions lately.
