Man City vs Sheffield Utd: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 30th January 2021
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Etihad Stadium

Match Preview:

Sheffield United did Manchester City a favour in the league as they stunned just about everyone by going to Old Trafford and beating Manchester United who would have gone back on top with a win.

Sheffield United were 11.00 to win the game and that was only the clubs 2nd win of the season and underlined why the Premier League is so competitive and at times very unpredictable. Now the Blades will try to beat the ‘other’ Manchester team but of course despite their win over the Red Devils they will be long odds for this game.

As for Manchester City they have a points advantage over 2nd placed Manchester United and a game in hand and they have to be the favourites now to win the league title. They are also 4 points in front of Liverpool with a game in hand to play. City’s form has been incredible and they have won their last 5 games and are scoring goals now, with 11 in their last 3 league matches.

Pep Guardiola’s side have the best home form where they have won 23 out of 30 points and are scoring an average of 2 goals per game. What is remarkable is that they have conceded 7 goals so far at home but 5 of those came in one game in the defeat against Leicester.

Sheffield United are 3 points adrift of 19th place despite the win against Man Utd but the club who have been very poor this season have won 2 of their last 3 games. The Blades are still huge favourites to be relegated of course and are 10 points from safety.

Team News:

Manchester City: Kevin De Bruyne is out for at least another 3-4 weeks due to a hamstring injury. It is unknown if Sergio Aguero will be back from illness, as he has been ill for 3 weeks now. Nathan Ake has been missing for unknown reasons.

Sheffield United: Ben Osborn is expected to miss this game with an ongoing knock. Jack Robinson is trying to get back after his knock and could be assessed. Enda Stevens has a calf injury and could be rested for this game. Oliver McBurnie looks set to miss this game with his knock.

Man City vs Sheffield Utd Head to Head:

Last season Manchester City beat Sheffield United at home 2-0.

The clubs have only played 3 times in the Premier League in recent years and all of them have ended in under 2.5 goals.

Based on recent fixtures there is a 50% chance that the correct score at half time will be 0-0.

Man City vs Sheffield Utd Prediction:

After watching Sheffield United’s battling display in beating Manchester United there is a tempting feeling of not being too harsh on the club and wondering if they have a chance here, but it's highly unlikely.

Like almost everyone we expect to see City win their 13th game of the season but they may have to work more than previously thought to achieve it and the value clearly lies away from the straight win bet, so we have provided a couple of riskier result based bets which give more value than a straight win bet.

We also think Phil Foden could be worth a look in the anytime goalscorer market.

Man City vs Sheffield Utd Betting Tips:

Half time/full time (Man City/Man City) at 1.53

Asian handicap (-2 Man City) at 1.65
