England Premier League
Saturday 4th March 2023
Kick off at 12:30pm GMT
Venue: Etihad Stadium
Match Preview:
With Arsenal having played and won their game in hand over Manchester City the official gap at the top is 5 points with 13 games left to play for the top two. City have stumbled at times this season but they have gone their last 4 games unbeaten and in their last match turned on the style by beating Bournemouth 4-1. This game will be City’s first at home in 3 fixtures and the players will be relishing to play in front of their home fans.
This game is the lunch time kick off so City have the chance to close the gap to 2 points but it is a huge game for Pep Guardiola’s side who could see their title chances severely dented if they were to drop points on Saturday. Home form doesn’t point to an upset and the club has the best home form in the league with 31 points won here from a possible 36 and they have scored 41 goals from 12 games.
Newcastle have lost just two games so far and they have been against the same side in Liverpool but after such a solid season there will be whispers if the Magpies campaign could fall apart? They have no wins in their last four games and we would have to go back to mid January for the clubs last victory. On top of that they are fresh from losing in the final of the Carabao Cup after defeat against Manchester United and the mood around the camp will not be positive. In the league they have slipped to 5th place and could go as low as 7th by the end of the weekend. Of course there is some good news as Eddie Howe’s side have 2 games in hand over 4th placed Tottenham although they are four points behind.
On the road it’s just one defeat so far but the majority of their results have ended in draws with 6 from 11 games. What Howe’s side can boast about is that they have the best defence on the road in the league with just seven conceded so far.
Team News:
Manchester City: Ayermic Laporte is being tipped to return from illness but will be assessed first. John Stones will also face assessment after missing an extended period and has some fitness issues but could return to the squad for this game.
Newcastle: Bruno Guimaraes will be assessed to understand the full scale of his recent ankle injury although early reports suggest that it is not a serious issue.
Man City vs Newcastle Head to Head:
Last season Manchester City won this fixture 5-0.
Manchester City have scored 16 goals past Newcastle in the last four meetings.
It’s been 9 games since Newcastle last beat Manchester City.
There is an 60% chance to see over 3.5 goals.
Man City vs Newcastle Prediction:
Pep Guardiola will need to see more of the same like how Manchester City dealt with Bournemouth last weekend and it is about starting on the front foot something we haven’t seen City do too much this season despite their obvious quality. Newcastle could be there for the taking and this is certainly a wobbly moment in their season but City will be well aware how solid and difficult Newcastle have been to beat so far. However the story here has to be about City asserting themselves after all they are the champions although it cannot be ignored how well Newcastle have been able to defend in this campaign so far.
This is a game where normally City would be 1.30 to win being at home but that price is at 1.52 so the bookmakers are trying to offer a little more value as there is a genuine threat from Newcastle. We think City will win the game and they could be facing Howe’s side at the right time. The bottom line here is City must win this game to stay in the title hunt and they will have to bring their A game and their Erling Haaland one too.
Man City vs Newcastle Betting Tips:
