England Premier League
Sunday 7th March 2021
Kick off at 4:30pm GMT
Venue: Etihad Stadium
Match Preview:
The Manchester derby could well be a moot point at this stage of the season with Manchester City 14 points clear at the top, but it is a Manchester derby and it is 1st v 2nd and it will be watched by millions in the country and worldwide of course. Manchester United would love to end City’s fantastic run too and have some bragging rights.
Of course for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team this feels like a must win game too given that Leicester are just a point behind and Chelsea are only adrift by four points. United one would feel will make the top 4 but at this stage that isn’t a guarantee not if Everton and West Ham and possibly a good run by Liverpool are anything to go by.
As for Manchester City they have simply blown the opposition away and the club won their 20th league game of the season by beating Wolves 4-1 in midweek. At home City have the best record in the league having won 35 points from 42 with 11 wins and just one defeat so far. City are scoring an average of 2 goals per game at home and have only conceded 9 goals. When you consider 5 of those occurred in one game against Leicester when the Foxes beat City 5-2 in a surprise result that is an incredible record for City.
Manchester United have one of the best away records in the league and have not lost on the road so far so that makes this game even more intriguing. However the wins away from home have stopped and United have drawn their last 4. The clubs last away game was against Crystal Palace and there will be a worry about the lack of goals on the road lately with just 1 scored from their previous four games.
Team News:
Manchester City: The club have no new injuries ahead of the game.
Manchester United: David De Gea has been ruled out for personal reasons and will not be able to play again until April because of the quarantine period upon his return. Anthony Martial has a knock but is expected to be fine for the encounter. Juan Mata is out with a muscle issue. Paul Pogba has a slight chance to return but may not be risked. Donny van de Beek has some fitness issues and will be assessed, but could miss out.
Man City vs Man Utd Head to Head:
Last season Manchester United won this fixture 2-1.
Earlier in the season at Old Trafford the game finished 0-0.
There is a 55% chance to see under 2.5 goals.
Man City vs Man Utd Prediction:
Manchester City will be the favourites to win of course but they should be in a for hard game. At the same time you have to wonder what kind of pressure is on City now? Even if they were to lose this game it wouldn’t make much of a difference to their soon to be title status. There is much more pressure on United here especially if the likes of Chelsea and West Ham win over the weekend.
United have either been great or average under Solskjaer and they seem to be going down that average path. City are really enjoying their football and don’t have to worry about the Champions League for another 10 days, so we will back the home win with a -1 asian handicap for better odds at no extra risk.
In some of the big clashes this season the respective teams haven’t scored many goals. City’s recent 1-0 win over Arsenal and United and Chelsea drawing 0-0 recently. With teams determined not to lose they can cancel out each other and whilst City have the better side we expect this to be another game that could end low scoring.
Man City vs Man Utd Betting Tips:
Asian handicap (-1 Manchester City) at 1.85
Goal line (Under 3) at 1.575
