Match Preview:
This will be the game of the day when the champions Manchester City take on the champions of 2016 Leicester in a 90 minute duel that could reveal many more stories and outcomes about the Premier League title.
Liverpool are not playing due to their involvement in the World Club Cup and this gives Leicester the opportunity to cut the gap at the top to 7 points with a win, the only catch is that they have to beat the champions on their own turf to do so.
If Manchester City lose or even draw this game surely that rules them out of the league title. Many think they are out of it now as they are 14 points behind but this game could confirm that. The club looked back to their best last weekend as Kevin de Bruyne put on a master class as City never shifted out of second gear to beat Arsenal 3-0.
Manager Pep Guardiola will need more of the same on Saturday but City at times have looked indifferent and they have now lost their number 2 in Mikel Arteta who has joined Arsenal as manager. How will this affect the dressing room and the players?
City’s form is not good enough for them with 10 points earned from their last 15. At home the club have already lost 2 games against Manchester United and Wolves. Usually City would be in 1st place on home record but they have to settle for 4th so far this season. The club are scoring goals at home though with 22 so far and have only conceded 8.
Leicester dropped points last weekend in disappointing fashion as Brendan Rodgers team could only draw 1-1 with Norwich. This ended a 5 game winning streak. The Foxes are still in 2nd place, 10 points behind Liverpool and 4 points in front of Manchester City.
The club have lost 2 games away from home and maybe it is telling that those defeats have come against quality in Liverpool and Manchester United. Still the Foxes away form has been impressive and they come into this game having won their last four in a row. Their last away game ended in a 4-1 victory at Aston Villa.
