England Premier League
Saturday 15th April 2023
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Etihad Stadium
Match Preview:
Has the Premier League season swung in Manchester City’s favour finally? It did feel like it after last weekend where Arsenal in 1st place dropped two points as they drew 2-2 with Liverpool and Manchester City roared on. As it stands coming into this weekend City are 6 points behind the Gunners but have a game in hand and also have to play them at the Etihad on April 26th and what a game that should be.
City seem to have found their winning formula though, they are attacking well, scoring goals and defending brilliantly that was highlighted in their fantastic 3-0 win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter final first leg. City have one foot in the semi-finals but of course the 2nd leg will be on their minds. But this game will take 100% importance, drop points here and not only would it be a huge shock but many would feel that Arsenal have just been handed the title. It doesn’t seem like it will happen though. City have won their last 8 games and all in all competitions have scored 11 goals in their last three games. They are a team on fire and at home in their last game they were able to demolish Liverpool 4-1 despite going a goal down and have beaten a very tricky Newcastle side here recently too. If that were not enough they are scoring 3 goals per game at home on average.
Leicester have drafted in Dean Smith for now to see if he can keep the 2016 champions in the Premier League. It’s certainly been a depressing turn of events for the Foxes who have to face the champions and are in 19th place. The Foxes have lost their last three games with defeats against Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Bournemouth- all close games but all defeats nonetheless. A shock win could see Smith’s side out of the bottom three but away form does not point to any shocks with 10 defeats from 15 games played and they have gone their last four games on the road without victory.
Team News:
Manchester City: Phil Foden is nearing a return but could just miss out here after having an appendix operation. City have no other players out.
Leicester: Youri Tielemans is still out and he could be for some time with his ankle injury. Harvey Barnes has a hamstring injury but could be assessed. Maximilian Wober will miss out also with a hamstring injury. Ryan Bertrand is a doubt once more as he has fitness issues.
Man City vs Leicester Head to Head:
Last season Manchester City won this fixture 6-3.
Manchester City have won the last three meetings in a row.
4 of the last five meetings has seen only one team score.
Man City vs Leicester Prediction:
Manchester City are not only the better team but they are hungry for success and not even the great Bayern Munich could stand in their way. City are steamrolling teams and with all due respect to Leicester we expect another demolish job to happen at the Etihad on Saturday. City are playing so well that you can’t even notice how hard they are working. Earlier in the season they had to dig deep but now they can score goals in the first half and are coming up to the level of possible champions just at the correct moment for the business part of the league.
We give Leicester next to no chance as the players get to grips with Smith’s tactics which will be to defend and defend again. Leicester are a good side but the confidence is very low and this could be a big score. City don’t look nervous or worried the players are smiling when they play the game in the last few weeks and not only should they win but we should witness quite a few goals.
