Venue: Etihad Stadium
Match Preview:
Sam Allardyce claimed this week that he is just as good as Pep Guardiola and now he gets the chance to prove that somewhat as the two managers clash at the weekend. The big news for Leeds was that they sacked Javi Gracia after just 12 weeks and have brought in veteran Allardyce to save their season. However he only has 4 games in which to do that and his first is not only against the champions and current league leaders but it’s also away from home.
Leeds' recent results have seen them earn just 1 point from their last 15 and not only are they losing games but they are shipping a ton of goals and one is reminded of Marcelo Bielsa’s last few games in particular before he got the chop. Leeds have conceded 18 goals in their last five games and their latest defeat came in a 4-1 battering against Bournemouth. Lose this game and they have every chance of dipping into the bottom three once again.
Manchester City have been in fantastic form and have won their last 9 games and have climbed to the top of the league standings passing Arsenal by one point and would go 4 points clear at the top with victory on Saturday. In midweek City beat West Ham 3-0 which included Erling Haaland breaking the Premier League record for a single season as he bagged his 35th goal of the season. At home it’s been just one loss for the club with 15 wins from 17, and with 57 goals scored at home they have the most and are 9 clear of Arsenal. From their last 30 points at home they have won 28 and have scored 10 goals in their last three home games.
Team News:
Manchester City: Kevin De Bruyne missed out in midweek due to a muscle injury and he may not be risked for this game. He is the only concern for the club.
Leeds: Liam Cooper has a knock and will be assessed, Luis Sinsterra is out for the season with his ankle. Both Stuart Dallas (leg) and Tyler Adams (hamstring) are out long term.
Man City vs Leeds Head to Head:
Manchester City have scored 14 goals against Leeds in the last 3 meetings.
Last season Manchester City won 7-0.
There is a 60% chance to see both teams to score.
Man City vs Leeds Prediction:
You can see where Leeds’ board are coming from to hire Sam Allardyce because their defence needs to be tightened, the leak in goals has to be stopped to give the side a chance of survival and Allardcye’s football while fairly stagnant on the eye also means that the defending improves. The problem Leeds have is that Allardyce is supposed to work his magic in 4 days before meeting the champions and that feels like an incredibly tough ask. In truth they needed to bring him in when they went for Gracia, still it will be interesting to see two contrasting styles at the weekend.
As we know City are full of goals and will be odds on favourites to win the game and yet of course their vital Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid next week will be on the minds of the players, and it can certainly play a part in this game as everyone of them will want to come through this one unhurt. City will need to work hard and stay focused for the win, as we don’t expect a repeat of the 7-0 crushing last season, but that doesn’t mean they won’t be able to wear Leeds down and that is what it comes down too, we should see a repeat of how they beat West Ham in midweek, and we don’t see anything but a win for the home side.
