England Premier League
Saturday 5th November 2022
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Etihad Stadium
Match Preview:
Manchester City have a problem because even though their usual title rivals Liverpool are having a nightmare start to the season and are effectively out of a title challenge already, they have a new rival in the form of Arsenal. City just can’t seem to shake them off and they come into this weekend two points behind them. City would go 1st at least for 24 hours with victory here as Arsenal play on Sunday but this is still a must win game as the Gunners have been so consistent so far.
Of course City should win and they will be huge odds on to do so. They have been fantastic at home so far, played 6 won 6 with 27 goals scored so any team visiting the Etihad would be weary of that. Their last game at home finished in a 3-1 victory over Brighton and it felt they did that still in second gear. In truth over the last month City have not been at their strongest and they have been missing Erling Haaland for a few games too but even an average performance from City when at home almost guarantees 3 points. City completed their Champions League group stage by beating Sevilla at home 3-1 although they were losing at one point.
On paper it is easy to think that City will brush aside Fulham however we must give credit to the club who have played really good football so far and have started well. The Cottagers are in 7th place and have 19 points and are unbeaten in their last 4 games. We would have to go back to the beginning of October for their last defeat against West Ham. The clubs last game finished in a 0-0 draw at home to Everton. On the road they have lost 50% of their games, although they did win their last game beating Leeds. A surprise victory would take them above Chelsea until at least Sunday.
Team News:
Manchester City: Erling Haaland has a knock and will be assessed though he has missed the last couple of games. Kyle Walker and Kalvin Phillips won’t be back until after the World Cup.
Fulham: Bobby DeCodrova-Reid is suspended for this game after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season. Layvin Kurzawa has recovered from injury but has a lack of match fitness and will be assessed. Manor Soloman is out long term with his knee injury.
Man City vs Fulham Head to Head:
The last league game played at the Etihad finished 2-0 to Manchester City.
The last time the clubs played each other was at the beginning of the year in the FA Cup which Manchester City being at home won 4-1.
Manchester City have won the last 12 meetings in a row.
Manchester City have scored 9 goals past Fulham in the last three meetings.
Man City vs Fulham Prediction:
Fulham have done well this season and they may well continue that after this game but we can’t see anything other than a home victory. Backing that isn’t really feasible here given City’s huge odds on price so we will look into different markets. The feeling is that Haaland will play in this game, even if he isn’t 100%, as he only has 2 more games now before not having to play until the end of the year due to the World Cup and of course Norway haven’t qualified so he gets to rest, although Haaland may have to start from the bench.
But even if Haaland doesn’t get game time there are goals everywhere in this side. Pep Guardiola hasn’t really seen a dominant and complete game from his side for some time and he will be demanding that from them because Fulham have the quality to score and have attacks on goal. Another option is goals for City and there is plenty but we can also look at Riyad Mahrez who has found some form and scored 2 goals past Fulham in the cup game earlier in the year. But expect City to be in 1st place by the evening, anything less would be a minor disaster with the form Arsenal are in.
