Man City vs Fulham: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 2nd September 2023
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Etihad Stadium

Match Preview:

There have been no surprises and shocks so far from Manchester City and while they haven’t looked as slick as the back end of last season they are in their favourite position in 1st place. It’s three wins from three and that has included victories over Burnley, Newcastle and Sheffield United. The Newcastle win was an important one given that the Magpies could be title challengers this season and have vastly improved over the last 18 months. Against the Blades while City played well they could have drawn that game if it wasn’t for Rodri’s screamer two minutes from time. So we wait to see a dominating display from the champions but this could be the game to witness that in.

Fulham are in 12th with all results achieved, a win, loss and draw. The Cottagers have gone two games without a win after beating Everton away from home and have followed this up with a disappointing 3-0 loss at home to Brentford but then a superb 2-2 draw away to Arsenal. Fulham were leading in that game then went 2-1 down so the fight back wasn’t expected and that shows how mentally tough this side can be. The good times continued in midweek as Marco Silva’s side knocked out Tottenham in the EFL Cup after drawing the game 1-1 they won on penalties.

Team News:

Manchester City: Manuel Akanji will be assessed due to illness, John Stones is out with a muscle injury for at least two weeks and Kevin De Bruyne is out until December with a hamstring injury.

Fulham: Tom Cairney, Harrison Reed and Willian are all doubts because of knocks and will be assessed respectively.

Man City vs Fulham Head to Head:

Manchester City won this fixture last season 2-1.

Manchester City have won the last 14 meetings against Fulham.

Fulham have not beaten Manchester City in 14 years.

The last 3 meetings has seen both teams to score.

Man City vs Fulham Prediction:

Manchester City will have enough here and should be able to score a few goals too however some of City’s close results can feel like a reminder of this time last season when the club found it hard to overcome sides they should have been scoring plenty of goals against. Fulham have been up and down already so yes their result against Arsenal was a great one but what about going down 3-0 at home to Brentford and this is another tough away game.

City will be odds on and unbackable for most so this is a case of looking into different markets. Erling Haaland scored last week and has 3 goals so far but he is ‘only’ joint top at the moment and the record breaker will want to break free of that list. Fulham can play their part in this game and it is worth noticing how the last three meetings have seen both teams to score, get on that market for very good value here. City in the end have too much quality and we expect to see 4 wins out of four but that doesn’t mean they will have it all their way, in a game that should have a few twists and turns. Another disadvantage for the Cottagers is that they had to play in midweek and even though changes were made, it’s another game they didn’t need if City, the superior side, had a week's rest, so there is a lot against the Cottagers before a ball is even kicked.

Man City vs Fulham Betting Tips:

Half Time/Full Time: Draw/Manchester City at 4.00

Erling Haaland to score 2+ goals at 2.75
