England Premier League
Saturday 15th December 2018
Kick off at 12.30pm GMT
Venue: Etihad Stadium
Match Preview:
The early Saturday lunchtime game looks like it will be an entertaining game as the champions Manchester City take on a revitalised Everton team under Marco Silva.
Pep Guardiola’s side qualified for the knock out stages of the Champions League in midweek by beating Hoffenheim 2-1 and the team remain in good spirits. In truth it was a victory the players needed after they suffered their first loss of the season, away to Chelsea by 2-0 last weekend. It was a shake up that perhaps City needed according to Guardiola, and the defeat doesn’t seem to have affected the team too much.
City have an incredible home record with 8 wins from 8 matches and are scoring almost 4 goals a game at home on average. They have conceded just 5 all season.
Everton blew the chance to move level on points with Manchester United earlier in the week when they drew 2-2 against Watford. It was a game that had added spice given that the Toffees manager Marco Silva was facing up to his old side for the first time. It was also a match that felt like a victory given that Everton were trailing 2-1 in the 96th minute when Lucas Digne scored the equaliser.
However the draw also means that the Toffee’s have gone their last 3 matches without a victory and their last win came against Cardiff at the end of November.
Everton have also lost touch with the top 4, and are 10 points adrift, but a Europa League place is still very evidently on the teams radar. Away from home they have won just 1 game all season, and this seems to be one of the very few sticking points under Silva’s leadership which has seen the team play fluid, fast and attacking football.
Team News:
Manchester City: Sergio Ageuro remains a 50/50 chance with a muscle injury but will be assessed ahead of this game. Danilo missed the Champions League game with an unspecified injury so has a chance to be available for this game. There is still no official news on Kevin De Bruyne’s long time injury but he is expected to be back this month. David Silva is out until at least the Christmas period and John Stones could return from a minor knee injury.
Everton: The only problem for Everton is Morgan Schneiderlin who has a leg injury, and could be assessed ahead of this game.
Man City vs Everton Head to Head:
Last season this match ended 1-1.
Everton have not won at Manchester City since 2010.
4 of the last 5 meetings have seen both teams to score.
Manchester City have not beaten Everton when at home since 2016.
Man City vs Everton Prediction:
Another big test for Manchester City awaits because if they do not play at 100%, Everton will capitalise on that. But City have looked like a team full of champions this season and especially at home we have to respect how strong they have been. City are big odds to win this game, but they are in for a tough test and have struggled in recent times to get the right results over Everton. Instead we will opt for the home side to be winning at half time.
Everton could have their own say in this match with a few key players set to be missing from the City line up. Ironically though they could end up helping their bitter rivals Liverpool out with a win or draw here.
