Match Preview:
Manchester City could be champions of England if Arsenal have failed to beat Nottingham Forest the day before but while a title cannot yet be celebrated if the Gunners were to draw that game the fans would be celebrating. However it doesn’t matter what Arsenal do, if City win here then they are champions for a 3rd time in a row.
Pep Guardiola’s side have won an incredible 11 games in a row, and they have gone on amazing consistent runs for the past few years namely in their epic battles with Liverpool which they have only lost out on once. There isn’t anything negative to say about the club and they have Erling Haaland up front who is possibly searching for the 40 goal mark after blasting the old Premier League goalscoring record away in his debut season and only aged 22. One has to wonder if the club can reach 100 league goals for the season, they are on 92 with 3 games left to play. It has been quite a season for City because for most of it it looked as if Arsenal were going to win the league but City roared on and found a different level when it was needed. Should Chelsea be afraid of coming to the Etihad? Well City have the best home record in the league and have won 16 of their 18 games here. They average 3 goals per game here needing just one more to hit the 60 goal mark, oh and they have scored 9 goals at home in their last 3 games including putting 4 past their only challengers in Arsenal.
Chelsea announced that Mauricio Pochettino will be taking over next season and while Frank Lampard knew that his stay was going to be temporary, possibly hearing that his successor has been named isn’t the greatest news for him. Lampard has had a nightmare time on his return to the club however the Blues have gone their last two games undefeated after beating Bournemouth and drawing at home to Nottingham Forest. Chelsea are battling in 11th place and it has been an incredibly poor season for them where 3 different managers have been in charge and a reported £500m has been spent, 11th place wasn’t part of the script but here we are.
Team News:
Manchester City: Nathan Ake is the only injury concern for the club as he recovers from his hamstring.
Chelsea: N’Golo Kante is out with a groin injury. Marcus Bettinelli is sidelined with an ongoing knock. Mateo Kovacic is a doubt with a knock but could be assessed. Kalidou Koulibaly will be assessed after his hamstring injury. Mason Mount, Reece James, Marc Cucarella and Ben Chilwell are all out and may not come back this season.

Manchester City are surely going to be too strong for Chelsea and we have seen nothing of Chelsea despite some genuine quality in the team that suggests that they can come here and win or even claim a draw. Under Frank Lampard Chelsea have been very poor with just 1 win in almost four months and that victory which came against Bournemouth was against a side who had nothing to play for. Their poor form was back last weekend against Nottingham Forest and at home they let Forest come back.
City are like a juggernaut train and they have a mission and no matter what happens with Arsenal, win here and they can celebrate the title with their fans at home. They are this close now and this game could be quite an occasion. Let’s also remember that it is two years since Chelsea won away to City, as for backing City that could be hard as they are a best priced 1.30 to win so it is best to look into different markets.
