Man City vs Brighton: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 29th September 2018
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Etihad Stadium

Match Preview:

Manchester City will start as the big odds on favourites to put Brighton to the sword when the two teams meet on Saturday afternoon.

Pep Guardiola’s side are two points behind league leaders Liverpool and will need to continue the chase given how strong Liverpool have been so far. The only points dropped so far by City has been their away draw against Wolves but they also lost in the Champions League against Lyon which has put a slight dampener on their season so far.

Three days after this game City will travel to Germany to play Hoffenheim and whilst they will be the favourites to win the game there is now huge pressure to do so given their opening match day defeat. The only negative surrounding the club for this Premier League game is having one eye on their Champions League match, otherwise City should have very few problems picking up the win.

Brighton are 13th and have just one win this season, they have now gone their last 4 games without a victory and their latest match ended in a 2-1 home defeat against Tottenham. Away from home they have no wins after losing to Watford and Liverpool and drawing against Southampton. They may take some solace in the fact that they only lost at Liverpool 1-0 but this will be a game where they will have to defend in numbers for the majority of the match.

Team News:

Manchester City: Benjamin Mendy is still out with a foot injury. Kevin De Bruyne is making progress but is not expected back until November

Brighton: Dale Stephens is set to miss this game after receiving a knock in midweek

Man City vs Brighton Head to Head:

Manchester City won this fixture 3-1 last season.

Manchester City have scored 7 goals against Brighton in the last 3 meetings.

Man City vs Brighton Prediction:

Manchester City are the obvious choice to win this game but are pretty much unbackable at 1.01. Instead we will back Guardiola’s team to win on the handicap and look into different goal markets. Brighton don’t have much of a chance here and if they take something then this is not a good sign for City’s season. City have a 100% record at home and have scored 11 goals in three games conceding just 2. There is simply too much quality in this side and City will be looking to wrap up this game as soon as possible. Riyad Mahrez has got a few goals now and got off the mark for the champions and we will back him to score on Saturday.

Man City vs Brighton Betting Tips:

Half Time: Over 1.5 goals at 1.83

Anytime goalscorer: Riyad Mahrez at 1.91

Correct Score: Manchester City to win 3-0 or 4-0 at 6.50 and 7.50
