Match Preview:
What is this all about then? Manchester City have lost two games in a row which is rare for them and Erling Haaland has been very quiet by his standards lately. Perhaps an international break was needed for the champions who will be looking to bounce back at home to Brighton. It felt like a big shock when City lost to Wolves 2-1 and that was followed up by a 1-0 defeat against Arsenal, it is worth noting that both defeats were away from home. Against Arsenal we were not treated to a good game and City did not look at their best but it may not have been such a huge defeat as the media wanted to point out after all the winning goal was a deflected one.
Up until those moments City were doing what they do best steamrolling sides and/or just playing solid professional football and getting the job done but those defeats have pushed the team back into 3rd place and they have 18 points as they have seen Tottenham and Arsenal go past them. The good news is that the gap is only two points and there is of course plenty to play for.
Brighton with 21 goals have the most in the league so far and when they are not losing 6-1 against Aston Villa they are beating teams like Manchester United 3-1 and doing the same job on Newcastle. Certainly life under manager Roberto De Zerbi is not boring for this determined and talented side. And they showed determination in their last game as they came back to draw 2-2 with Liverpool, the Seagulls have had their poor moments this season but are not to be taken lightly. Brighton are in 6th place and have 16 points so they could make a real splash into the top three with a win on Saturday.
Team News:
Manchester City: Kevin De Bruyne is out for two months with a hamstring injury, he is the only injury concern coming into this game.
Brighton: Igor Julio and Tariq Lamptey will both be assessed following knocks and could play. James Milner is only 50/50 to return from a muscle injury, Karou Mitoma has been suffering from fatigue and will be assessed. Pervis Estupinan has a muscle injury and has been ruled out for at least two weeks.
Man City vs Brighton Head to Head:
Last season Manchester City won this fixture 3-1.
4 of the last five meetings has seen both teams to score.
Brighton have never beaten Manchester City away from home.
There is a 70% chance to see over 2.5 goals.
Man City vs Brighton Prediction:
We may well see the most entertaining game of the weekend as Pep Guardiola comes up against Roberto De Zerbi. Brighton are not a side that will come to the Etihad and look to just defend if they find the right opportunity they will attack. This is what makes Brighton such an exciting team to watch and Manchester City will have to be at their best to win this game even at home. We do feel that City will win and Erling Haaland will be happy to have both Bernardo Silva and Rodri back again, it is one thing entirely to be missing De Bruyne but to have missed all three of them over the last few weeks has been too much, although Silva was back for the Arsenal game.
City are odds on of course but at 1.40 that won’t be a favourable price for many so let’s look at better value. Haaland has been quiet but he will have plenty of supply at the weekend and we will be backing the Norwegian to get back on track too, expect a very good game and Brighton should play their part.
Man City vs Brighton Betting Tips:
Asian handicap (-1 Manchester City) at 1.60
Anytime goalscorer: Erling Haaland at 1.50
