England Premier League
Saturday 12th November 2022
Kick off at 12:30pm GMT
Venue: Etihad Stadium
Match Preview:
The champions will kick off the last batch of games in the Premier League for six weeks because of the winter World Cup and they will be searching not just for a victory, but a good performance with goals.
City have been keeping up with league leaders Arsenal and are just 2 points behind them but their performances over the past month have not been vintage City, and manager Pep Guardiola will be demanding that especially with the big break coming up. Last weekend City had a lot of problems in beating Fulham 2-1 and it took a very late penalty scored by Erling Haaland to settle the game, but a draw felt like the right result and that would have been a surprise result. However the victory over the Cottagers was their 3rd win in a row and also kept up their 100% win rate at home. In midweek and again at home City beat Chelsea 2-0 and while some players were dropped for the Carabao Cup it was still an impressive victory against a tough opponent.
Brentford are in 11th place with 16 points and Thomas Frank’s side has overall punched above their weight and they should be pleasantly happy with their start to the season. The Bees have drawn 3 of their last four games and last weekend they had to come back against Nottingham Forest in a game that finished 2-2. But form has been good with just one loss in their last five coming against Aston Villa and that form includes holding Chelsea to a 0-0 result. Away from home they have been found out more though and they have yet to win a game with four draws and 3 defeats. They have also worryingly conceded 11 goals in their last 3 trips.
Team News:
Manchester City: Presently it’s a clean bill of health with only Kyle Walker sidelined as he has been for many weeks. He isn’t due back until the end of December with a muscle injury.
Brentford: Shandon Baptiste, Pontus Jansson, Aaron Hickey and Thomas Strakosha are all out until the Christmas period. Vitaly Janelt will be assessed due to a muscle injury.
Man City vs Brentford Head to Head:
The teams have only played each other 15 times with 9 wins for Manchester City.
Last season Manchester City won this fixture 2-0.
The last 3 meetings have all seen under 2.5 goals.
Man City vs Brentford Prediction:
Goals should be the order of the day, and we should forget about the recent statistic of seeing under 2.5 goals. It is true that City have been struggling of late with their passing and decisions and can let other teams into games that they should be dominating. However because of the nature of this game, being the last one in a while and being at home this one could well have the feel of an end of season game, and we think the talent that City possess, they can go out and try and enjoy this one and that could mean lots of problems for Brentford.
Brentford have produced some good football and they are a club who would normally be amongst the favourites to be relegated, but they play a brand of football that suggests that they will survive this season, but their away form remains a huge problem and now they will face the best team in the country, so this will be a tough ask for them. City are odds on of course, so it’s time again to look into different markets and goals will be our leading market. What will also spur City on will be playing before Arsenal do, so they are laying down that gauntlet and that has always favoured a Guardiola side.
Man City vs Brentford Betting Tips:
Manchester City to score 3+ goals at 1.57
Erling Haaland to score 2+ goals at 2.95
