Man City vs Bournemouth: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Wednesday 15th July 2020
Kick off at 6pm BST
Venue: Etihad Stadium

Match Preview:

Whilst Manchester City have not always been impressive away from home, when they play at the Etihad with or without fans they have constantly proven they are simply fantastic. That’s confirmed when you can beat the champions of England, champions of Europe and champions of the world Liverpool 4-0. And the goals don’t stop there, how about the 5-0 trouncing of Burnley a club who are trying to qualify for Europe next season? Or another 5-0 win this time over Newcastle who at the time had not lost a game since the restart.

So Bournemouth who are on the edge of being relegated don’t need this fixture and must hope that City are not on their game because this match even before the referee whistles looks like a foregone conclusion.

There is just so much to love about City right now, who since getting confirmation that they can’t win the league are playing with more freedom as they prepare for FA Cup games and the Champions League in August.

They have scored 50 goals at home more than anyone else. Just their home goals alone is almost double what Norwich have for the season. The only concern for City would be whether they have motivation now that 2nd place is secured.

Bournemouth are still big contenders to go down and they need a win here. They have played some decent football in their last couple of games to be fair but this could be a write off, and that could damage their chances of staying up greatly.

Eddie Howe’s team have lost around 75% of their away games which is simply too much and spells relegation and have no wins in their last five trips. They will be hoping their last game, an impressive 4-1 win against Leicester can help the team's confidence against Man City.

Team News:

Manchester City: Sergio remains out with a knee injury but they have no new injury concerns.

Bournemouth: Highly rated defender Nathan Ake will be unavailable, and Joshua King and Adam Smith are both doubtful to play.

Man City vs Bournemouth Head to Head:

Earlier this season in the reverse fixture Manchester City eased to a 3-1 win.

Last season this fixture also ended 3-1 to Manchester City.

Manchester City have won the last 9 meetings in a row.

The clubs have only played each other 15 times in their history and Bournemouth have never beaten City. They have lost 13 games and drawn 2. The last time Bournemouth took any points from City was in 1999.

Man City vs Bournemouth Prediction:

Manchester City should have no problems in this match and could score another 5 goals. In fact they are averaging scoring 3 goals per game against Bournemouth. The odds will be too short so we need to look into different markets for value, but this match does seem like a banker bet. The problem Eddie Howe has got is how do you approach the game? Go and attack City at your peril away from home and things could get tricky fast. The best result here seems to be to produce an incredible defensive display and get a draw. Remember Bournemouth already went gung-ho against City’s rivals Manchester United a few weeks ago only for them to concede 5 goals in that game. This looks like it will be a difficult 90 minutes for the struggling team.
