Match Preview:
It’s fair to say that this hasn’t been a good week for Manchester City. Following their 1-0 defeat at Tottenham their name was in the media for the wrong reasons and they have been charged by the FA for possible multiple breaches of FFP. This has created quite a tense atmosphere at the club and it will be very interesting to see how the club reacts in this game.
There is a real chance that City’s season could collapse around them and in Manchester United, Newcastle and Tottenham they have three clubs that could find consistency in City’s mess and pass them in the league. Everything is possible right now and everything is on the table. At the same time we all know of City’s qualities and what they can do, and they have still been able to win 14 of 21 games this season. But the club have lost 2 of their last four games and have slipped 5 points behind league leaders Arsenal and the Gunners have a game in hand over them.
Aston Villa have improved greatly under Unai Emery who has helped the club not have to fight in a relegation battle this season. Since he has arrived Villa have looked completely different in a great way and they are 10 points clear of the bottom three. However Villa were shot down at home 4-2 by Leicester last weekend and they might be in their thoughts coming into this game. But Villa have a recent superb away record where they have won 3 in a row beating Brighton, Tottenham and Southampton, and there is a real buzz at the club.
Team News:
Manchester City: Phil Foden will be assessed due to illness in which forced him to miss the last game. John Stones is missing for another two weeks at least due to his on going hamstring issues.
Aston Villa: The club has no new injuries and is only missing Diego Carlos who has been out long term due to his Achilles injury and is being pencilled in to return in 3 weeks time.
Man City vs Aston Villa Head to Head:
Last season in this fixture Manchester City won 3-2.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture the teams drew 1-1.
In the last 14 meetings Manchester City have won 12 and drawn 2. Aston Villa’s last victory came back in 2013.
The last 4 games in a row has seen both teams to score.
Man City vs Aston Villa Prediction:
Can Pep Guardiola get the best out of his players when it matters? There backs are against the wall and they could come into this game 8 points behind Arsenal as the Gunners play a day before. What is worrying for the club is that last weekend they witnessed Arsenal losing and then knew what they had to do but lost against Tottenham and for us that is not the sign of champions in waiting. Something is wrong with the club and by their high standards their football has not been at the level it should be this season. There is also their game against Arsenal in midweek coming up away from home which could really tell us where this title is heading. This is a huge game for City and one which they must win.
Aston Villa have a poor record over City but they have been able to give them a few scares especially last season when they raced into a 2-0 lead and had they won the game then City would have lost the title. City can come out here and stick 5 goals past Villa but we think this will be a close game and the value seems to be on the away side possibly on the handicap. These are not good times at City at present both behind the scenes and on the pitch.
Man City vs Aston Villa Betting Tips:
