Luton vs Tottenham: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League

Kick off at 12:30pm BST
Venue: Kenilworth Road

Match Preview:

Luton’s victory comedown happened quickly as just three days after beating Everton and winning their first game of the season they lost at home 2-1 to Burnley. It seems like it is back to the drawing board for the Hatters and the game against Burnley was a huge one to lose especially at home. For now the win over Everton is going to be seen as a blip and it doesn’t get any easier for the club as they take on Tottenham who come into this game alongside Arsenal as the only unbeaten side in the league.

Despite the defeat against Burnley Luton are not in the bottom three and have been saved for now by their goal difference. With just 4 points from a possible 21 though the club will remain amongst the favourites to be relegated this season and after just being beaten here by Burnley very few will expect them to produce a surprise result at the weekend.

Tottenham have had a superb start and are in 2nd place with 17 points and just a point behind Manchester City. It’s five wins and two draws and no defeats so far for Ange Postecoglou’s team. Last weekend Tottenham overcame the challenge by Liverpool to win 2-1 despite in fairness VAR making a terrible decision on what should have been a Liverpool goal. No matter Tottenham dug in and got the win and have won four of their last five games, their only recent blip was the 2-2 away draw against Arsenal which was actually also a successful result. We should also note that Tottenham have recently beaten Luton’s conqueror’s Burnley 5-2 and that was away from home.

Team News:

Luton: Ross Barkley remains sidelined with a hamstring issue, Amarii Bell has a knock and will be assessed. Jordan Clark, Daniel Potts, Gabriel Osho and Albert Sambi Lokonga are all out.

Tottenham: There are no new injuries for the club however Rodrigo Bentancur, Bryan Gil, Brennan Johnson, Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon all remain sidelined for at least the next 3-4 weeks. Ivan Perisic has been ruled out for the season with a knee injury.

Luton vs Tottenham Head to Head:

The clubs have not played each other for 31 years and in that fixture the game finished 0-0.

Although the sides have not met each other for a long period of time there is a pattern of results and if this one followed on then we would witness a Tottenham victory.

Luton vs Tottenham Prediction:

As has been the case this season in various games the h2h does not matter for this one as too much time has elapsed. It would just be like Tottenham to lose a game like this one but perhaps this season everything has changed for the club. Even James Maddison has said that the club have lost that ‘spursy’ tag. This game could heighten that statement. We expect Tottenham to win with the form they have shown, although in some cases they have left winning until the very final minutes and they won’t be able to pull off escapes like that time and again. The quality, goals and confidence are with the away side though and we don’t see past them.

Tottenham are 1.44 to win so it might be better to add more value to the win selection and therefore go for the -1 asian handicap. Heung Min Son has been in superb form and we must continue to back him for goals. As for Luton it will be interesting to see how they react after their latest loss but you sense that they needed the good times to follow after their win over Everton so this now feels like they have slumped again and trying to pick themselves up against this Tottenham side seems like quite a big ask for us.

Luton vs Tottenham Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (-1 Tottenham) at 1.70

Anytime goalscorer: Heung Min Son at 2.10

Anytime goalscorer: James Maddison at 2.50

Over 2.5 goals at 1.57
