Luton vs Man City: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League

Venue: Kenilworth Road

Match Preview:

Luton have put in some impressive displays recently but it has only yielded 4 points from their last five games and this has seen the Hatters drop back into the relegation zone. The club were very close to drawing 3-3 with Arsenal until an injury time goal brought on Luton’s 10th defeat of the season. They have also recently beaten Crystal Palace and Liverpool could only draw here. There has been fight from the club but there is a sense that they are going to struggle this season and be in and around the bottom three. At home it is just one win so far and they have only been able to earn 5 points from a possible 21. Defence should be credited though with only 12 goals conceded at home, that is only four more than Arsenal.

The heat is on for Manchester City who have gone a remarkable four games without a win. Pep Guardiola in his whole managerial career has never gone five games without victory and many will not expect that unwanted record to be broken here. But City have fallen behind and trail league leaders Arsenal by six points coming into this weekend. Such is the quality of the team they are still installed as the favourites to win the league title but the problem for City is that they don’t just have Arsenal as a title run, we can throw in Liverpool and Aston Villa too. City were beaten 1-0 by Aston Villa in midweek away from home and seemed uncomfortable in that game, you could almost sense that Villa would score during it and this followed three draws in a row. Everyone of those draws was damning because the champions were in winning positions in all of those matches. City has the third best away record but it’s just one win in their past five meetings and that will be the worry here, but they will be expected to get the job done.

Team News:

Luton: Tom Lockyer and Marvelous Nakamba are in line to return from injury for this game but will be assessed. Cauley Woodrow is expected to miss out again due to a calf injury bur could return next weekend. Issa Kabore cannot face his parent club, Reece Burke, Mads Andersen and Daniel Potts all remain out.

Manchester City: Jeremy Doku could be assessed but remains a doubt with a knock which saw the player miss the game in midweek. Kevin De Bruyne was pencilled in to return next week but that might be delayed until the Christmas period now.

Luton vs Man City Head to Head:

The clubs have not played in this fixture since 1998 in a game that finished 1-1.

It’s been 31 years since the clubs played a game in the top flight.

Luton vs Man City Prediction:

We can’t look at h2h’s for this game, the change from Manchester City as a football club is unrecognisable the last time these two teams met, one could say back then the clubs were fairly equal in quality. What we do know is that City has the potential to score many goals in this game such is the gulf in quality. However Luton have defended well at home and made it hard for most clubs coming here, if Liverpool can struggle to get a point why can’t anyone else? Of course City will be frustrated with their recent form though and we would be surprised if Luton could keep them out, and we could see 3 or 4 goals fly past Luton’s net. This is a big game for City and the champions will be taking it seriously from the first second to the last, they have already lost ground and cannot afford to lose more. Luton will give a good account of themselves in the early exchanges but surely they will be overpowered despite all of their passion. They are going to face a side who want to make amends for recent results.
