Luton vs Liverpool: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 5th November 2023
Kick off at 4:30pm GMT
Venue: Kenilworth Road

Match Preview:

Luton have lost 70% of their games so far and are already odds on to be relegated, as they will find out this league doesn’t let up and they will open their doors to Liverpool at the weekend and be immediate underdogs to get anything from the game.

The Hatters are in 18th place with 5 points and could go past Bournemouth with an unlikely positive result and into safety. The club have won just 1 point from their last four games and last weekend they put up a fight but in the end lost 3-1 against Aston Villa. Home is not always sweeter as Luton know and they have yet to win here earning just one point from their four games played. The good news? They are not losing heavily at home and have only lost by one goal margins conceding just six goals that is fewer than Manchester United and Brighton.

Liverpool reached the quarter finals of the EFL Cup in midweek as they overcame a tough Bournemouth side to win 2-1. In the league the Reds are in fourth place but only three points behind Tottenham in 1st and they have won their last two games and are unbeaten in their last three. Last weekend the Reds beat Nottingham Forest 3-0 and that followed a derby win over Everton. Liverpool have the fourth best away record but they have gone their last two games on the road without victory with a loss (although controversial) against Tottenham and a 2-2 draw with Brighton. Liverpool could go top this weekend although they would need Tottenham to lose and Arsenal and Manchester City to lose or draw.

Team News:

Luton: There are no new injury concerns for the club but they do continue to be hampered with an injury list which is long term problems for Reece Burke, Amarii Bell and Mads Andersen. Jordan Clark, Daniel Potts and Albert Sambi Lokonga are all out but are expected back in three weeks.

Liverpool: An update on Andrew Robertson’s shoulder injury has confirmed he won’t return until January. Thiago Alcantara has a hip injury that will rule him out for the rest of the year. Stefan Bajcetic is sidelined with no fixed return date with a calf strain.

Luton vs Liverpool Head to Head:

The teams have not played one another since they met in the FA Cup. At Luton the game finished 1-1, the replay was won 5-0 by Liverpool.

There is a 60% chance to see over 3.5 goals.

Luton vs Liverpool Prediction:

The problem we have for h2h’s just like Nottingham Forest last season is that we have to take into account the fact that Luton haven’t been in the top flight for over 30 years. So all we can go on is the strength of both teams. Luton have been poor and look to be heading back to the Championship unless they are to find some consistency which has to begin at home, but that happening against Liverpool has to be highly questionable. Credit however should be given to the Hatters who have been able to avoid heavy losses at home but is a big step up for the club and everyone will be expecting an away win.

Liverpool are 1.20 to win so that won’t make many jump on the away victory and the best choice here seems to be to back the Reds to be winning at half time and full time. The likes of Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota will be relishing the chance to score but watch out for set pieces and some players who rarely get on the score sheet will take more chances playing Luton and could be worth backing and are very good value.
