Liverpool vs West Ham: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 5th March 2022
Kick off at 5:30pm GMT
Venue: Anfield

Match Preview:

The league title is very much on for Liverpool and they come into this weekend six points behind Manchester City but with a game in hand and by Saturday evening they could have that down to just three points and many will expect them to do just that.

The Reds have won their last 7 games and are looking like title winners, they certainly have the title form and will probably feel happier to be chasing for the league title at this point in time than having to defend their lead. Jurgen Klopp’s side had very little trouble in midweek when they knocked Norwich out of the FA Cup to reach the quarter finals and even though the final score finished 2-1 in favour of the Reds they owned much of that game and never really looked in danger.

Last weekend Liverpool won the Carabao Cup as they beat Chelsea on penalties after the game had finished 0-0 and that winning feeling has returned to the club who have won yet another trophy in their history. The bottom line is that it’s all good news at Anfield.

West Ham have given themselves a glimmer of hope in the race for 4th place as they beat Wolves 1-0 last weekend. It means that they are in 5th place and just 2 points behind 4th placed Manchester United. However it isn’t as simple as trying to go past United, the Hammers also have to fend off Arsenal and Tottenham who have games in hand over them. It means that there is pressure coming into this game to get something from it or they could see valuable work come to nothing, but who will give the Hammers a chance here against a club who are undefeated so far at home?

Though West Ham have dropped points over the last month they are undefeated in their last four games, which is encouraging. However David Moyes side were dumped out of the FA Cup as they lost 3-1 against Southampton in midweek and that would have hurt the club.

Team News:

Liverpool: Curtis Jones is only 50/50 to make this game because of a previous thigh injury. Naby Keita has a knock and will be assessed. Thiago Alcantara looks set to miss out but should return next weekend from his hamstring and Roberto Firmino should also return next weekend after his muscle injury.

West Ham: Mark Noble has a knock but is expected to be fit for this game. Ryan Fredericks could miss out with his groin and will be assessed. Arthur Masuaku is 50/50 with his knee and may have to wait another week. Tomas Soucek has a facial injury and is a doubt but will have a last minute assessment. Andriy Yarmolenko is out for personal reasons.

Liverpool vs West Ham Head to Head:

Last season Liverpool won this fixture 2-1.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture West Ham beat Liverpool 3-2 it was the Hammers first win over the Reds in 5 years.

The last four meetings in a row has seen both teams to score.

Liverpool vs West Ham Prediction:

Liverpool are big odds on to win so this market will be closed up to most punters and we should look into different ones. Surprises can happen and you can get the Hammers at 11.00, but it’s difficult to see Liverpool slipping up here with so much on the line. At the same time David Moyes side must look for avenues of attack but Moyes has been cautious in the past coming to grounds like Anfield and one suspects the Scot may just be happy if his side got a draw here, make no mistake that would be a good result for West Ham.

However we feel Liverpool will win this game and it should be quite open. The better value markets will be in goalscorers. Mohamed Salah has scored a few goals past the Hammers indeed he has five in the last six meetings alone and that is not counting all of them. Sadio Mane has been scoring a few goals lately too and both should be taken on to find the back of the net in what should be a very exciting and fast paced game.

Liverpool vs West Ham Betting Tips:

Anytime goalscorer: Mohamed Salah at 1.66

Anytime goalscorer: Sadio Mane at 2.05

Over 2.5 goals at 1.50
