Liverpool vs West Brom: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 27th December 2020
Kick off at 4:30pm GMT
Venue: Anfield

Match Preview:

Liverpool have been back to their best in the past week and the chasing pack in the Premier League will have to be switched on because the gap could well increase over the Christmas period.

After swapping places with Tottenham Liverpool have now gone 4 points clear after they beat Tottenham 2-1 at Anfield and then destroyed Crystal Palace 7-0 away from home. The worry is in this form Liverpool will go on a consistent run just like last season. With all due respect to West Bromwich Albion, Liverpool will be expected not to just win this game but score quite a few goals.

At home Liverpool have gone over 34 games unbeaten and have started this season with a 100% record. The Reds are almost scoring 3 goals a game at home and have put six goals past Tottenham and Wolves here in their last 2 home matches.

West Bromwich Albion have a new manager in Sam Allardyce and his first game in charge was a 3-0 loss at the hands of Aston Villa in the Midlands derby. This game looks a stretch too and it is clear he will set up his team to defend, defend, and defend. They will have to remain focused and will not see much of the ball one suspects.

West Brom have not won a game since the end of November and away from home are yet to win and have the 2nd to worst record in the league earning just 2 points from a possible 21.

Team News:

Liverpool: The Reds have no new injury concerns. James Milner and Xherdan Shaqiri could face late tests but may not make this fixture.

West Bromwich Albion: Jake Livermore is suspended after his red card v Aston Villa. Sam Field is 50/50 to return after fitness issues.

Liverpool vs West Brom Head to Head:

The clubs have not played each other in Liverpool since 2017 when the game ended 0-0.

The last two league fixtures have ended as a draw.

West Bromwich Albion have not beaten Liverpool in the league since 2013.

Liverpool vs West Brom Prediction:

Liverpool are huge odds on to win the game though it is true that the Reds have struggled against West Brom in recent years. There have also been plenty of low scoring games and one can imagine that Allardyce will try to frustrate Liverpool at the weekend.

However Liverpool have just put 7 goals past Crystal Palace, they look unstoppable at home and if they can score early then the away side will lose heart. We will have to look into the handicap markets given the short odds on Liverpool, but surely this is a one way street game and another 3 points for the Reds looks inevitable.

Liverpool vs West Brom Betting Tips:
