England Premier League
Saturday 2nd April 2022
Kick off at 12:30pm BST
Venue: Anfield
Match Preview:
The Premier League is back this weekend and we will kick off with Liverpool at home to Watford. After, trailing Manchester City by 12 points at one point, Liverpool could go in 1st place with victory against Roy Hodgson’s Watford. And the Reds will be expected to not only win but have a fairly easy encounter too.
Liverpool have won their last 9 games in stunning form that many now believe make Jurgen Klopp’s team genuine title contenders. This game was always going to be a very difficult one for Watford even before a ball is kicked and Liverpool have a fantastic home record as well. They are the only side unbeaten at home so far this season and from a possible 42 points they have won 36. The Reds last victory here came against West Ham in a 1-0 victory but they have scored 10 goals at home in their last three games. Victory would put the Reds 2 points clear of Manchester City with City playing later that day.
Watford look doomed but here is a club that have surprised this season. The recent 0-0 away against Manchester United is an example. The Hornets have lost 19 games this season but they did win their last before the international break as they impressively beat Southampton 2-1 away from home. Hodgson’s team are in 18th place but look contenders to go down given that they have played 2 more games than 17th placed Everton and also two more games than 19th placed Burnley. A win at the weekend would certainly set the cat amongst the pigeons as far as Everton and Burnley would be concerned and yet because of poor goal difference the Hornets would not be able to move out of their current position.
Watford have actually got a much better away record than at home and from their 22 points 15 have come on the road. Recent away form isn’t too bad either with just one defeat from their past four.
Team News:
Liverpool: Trent Alexander- Arnold is only 50/50 to return for this game after his recent hamstring injury. Naby Keita will be assessed with his knee after pulling out of international duty.
Watford: Jeremy Ngakia is expected to make his return after his hamstring injury.
Liverpool vs Watford Head to Head:
The last time the teams played here was in 2019 and Liverpool won 2-0.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Liverpool won 5-0.
Liverpool have lost just once from the past 10 meetings against Watford.
In the last six meetings Liverpool have scored 23 goals past Watford and conceded zero times.
Liverpool vs Watford Prediction:
Watford have already been thrashed by Liverpool when at home this season but one has to wonder if the game would not be much closer at this present time in the season and just after an international break, had Watford been at home?
Watford are not at home though and clubs don’t come to Anfield this season and win games. Liverpool are sure to be too strong for the Hornets and if they score early we could witness a few goals. Of course key players for Liverpool were involved in international games and Mohamed Salah made the headlines as lasers were pointed at his face as he missed a penalty which means that Egypt will not take part in this years World Cup finals. Instead Senegal will and that means his Liverpool team mate has yet again got one over on Salah, his team mate being Sadio Mane who also witnessed his national team win the African Cup of Nations against Egypt. Those two need to be at peace with one another here. But even if they are not firing on all cylinders and are a little lethragic we can look at Diogo Jota who will be on a high after Portugal secured their World Cup berth, Luis Diaz has also started his career well with the Reds.
The bookmakers have Liverpool at huge odds on to win and who can complain about that? So let’s look into different markets, but like everyone else we believe Liverpool will be heading, at least for a few hours, to the top of the Premier League table after this game.
Liverpool vs Watford Betting Tips:
Correct Score: Liverpool to win 2-0 or 3-0 at 7.00 and 7.00
