Liverpool vs Tottenham: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League

Venue: Anfield

Match Preview:

We keep saying this but what a week it has been for Liverpool and they seem to go from strength to strength as we get to the business end of the season. The Reds have made it yet again to the Champions League final after they beat Villarreal 5-2 on aggregate but they only got to the final after a scare.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were leading 2-0 from the first leg but in Spain his side were stunned as Villarreal went 2-0 up. In the end after a frantic and exciting second half Liverpool powered through and won the game 3-2 and the quadruple is still on, they will play Real Madrid in the final.

It’s back to the Premier League now and the Reds could go top until Sunday at least but they face a tricky opponent to deal with in Tottenham who are trying to finish in a top four place. But Liverpool at home are quite a proposition, the Reds are unbeaten in the league this season in front of their home fans and have won 14 of their 17 games here with 3 draws. Their last game here ended in a 2-0 win over Merseyside rivals Everton. At home they have won their last 10 games, scored 27 goals and conceded just twice. Liverpool would go two points clear at the top with victory until at least Manchester City play Newcastle at home on Sunday.

Tottenham have already upset the champions Manchester City away from home this season so can the Londoners provide a sting in the tail to title hopefuls Liverpool too? Form isn’t the best for Spurs who have just one win from their past three games, that victory did come in their last match though as they beat Leicester at home. Tottenham are two points behind Arsenal in 4th and so a surprise victory would see Antonio Conte’s side go past the Gunners until Sunday at least. On the road Tottenham have the sixth best record and are undefeated in their past 3 games, they have still lost six matches though.

Team News:

Liverpool: Roberto Firmino has a foot injury and is presumed to still be out with no specified return date for the Brazilian, he is the clubs only injury concern ahead of the game.

Tottenham: Sergio Reguilon is out with a groin injury and may not return this season. Oliver Skipp (groin), Japhet Tangagna (knee) and Matt Doherty (knee) are all out for the season.

Liverpool vs Tottenham Head to Head:

Last season Liverpool won this fixture 2-1.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture the teams drew 2-2.

It’s been 10 games since Tottenham beat Liverpool and 11 years since Tottenham won away at Liverpool.

The last 3 meetings has seen both teams to score.

Liverpool vs Tottenham Prediction:

Liverpool are on a high and let’s face it have been for most of the season, the wins just keep coming and they will be expected to have too much for Tottenham at the weekend. Their price of 1.44 may be too short for some so it is worth looking into the asian handicap markets for value.

It will be interesting to see how Tottenham play without the ball given that they will face long spells without possession, but Conte’s team will have to come forward and take some risks. Obviously a defeat is a disaster for them especially if Arsenal win on Sunday but a draw is no good either, a win is needed. Can Tottenham do what no other team has been able to do this season and win at Anfield? We don’t think so, at this point Liverpool are simply too strong even though they had to play an intense game in midweek, this machine just keeps on rolling and Tottenham are in for a difficult game against a special side.
