England Premier League
Saturday 27th November 2021
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Anfield
Match Preview:
It felt like an important victory for Liverpool last weekend as they beat Arsenal 4-0 because the Reds had gone two games without a win. But they were back to their slick best in teaching the Gunners a lesson or two with the usual suspects on the score sheet too.
Liverpool followed that win up by qualifying for the knock out stages of the Champions League as they beat Porto 2-0 at home in midweek, and after a small blip the good times seem to be back at the club.
Jurgen Klopp’s team come into this game in 3rd place and are 4 points behind league leaders Chelsea. At home they remain unbeaten with 3 wins and three draws.
Southampton trail their hosts by 11 points and are in 13th place. The club had really turned their form around in recent weeks going four games unbeaten. However last weekend that ended as they were beaten 2-1 away to Norwich. It was a disappointing result for the Saints but then again they were facing a side who have just changed manager.
The Saints have just one win away from home so far and have lost 2 of their last three trips. They have conceded 5 goals in those last 3 away games too. A surprise win could well boost the club up by 2-3 positions.
Team News:
Liverpool: Roberto Firmino has had a hamstring injury which has ruled him out of recent games and he is set to miss another weekend. Naby Keita has a 50/50 chance to make this game after his hamstring injury. Curtis Jones, Joseph Gomez and Harvey Elliott are all longer term absentees.
Southampton: Stuart Armstrong is out of this game because of his calf injury. Jack Stephens will be assessed due to a lack of match fitness.
Liverpool vs Southampton Head to Head:
Last season this fixture finished 2-0 to Liverpool.
From the last 8 meetings between the teams Liverpool have won 7.
Southampton have not beaten Liverpool away from home in the league since 2013.
Liverpool vs Southampton Prediction:
Liverpool are huge odds on to win this game and in truth this should be a fairly routine victory for the club. Though there is no value in backing them with odds of around 1.25.
Liverpool have had to play in midweek but that shouldn’t be a huge problem for them here as they hardly broke sweat and will be well prepared for this game. Backing Liverpool on the handicap could be the best choice here to reel the price back in.
Southampton can be a difficult club to play and Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side are sure to have a few chances themselves but that will leave gaps and the danger is this Liverpool side on the counter attack. In recent weeks we have seen Sadio Mane perk up and score goals and of course he will be playing his former club and that usually means witnessing a goal from former players. At the end of the day Liverpool should be too strong for Southampton who haven’t been able to win here in the league for the past 8 years.
Liverpool vs Southampton Betting Tips:
Handicap: Liverpool to beat Southampton with a -1 goal start at 1.72
Anytime goalscorer: Sadio Mane at 2.00
