Venue: Anfield
Match Preview:
Liverpool are not giving up on European football this season and they come into this weekend in 8th place with 47 points and are two wins away from their goal. While the Reds have been underwhelming in this campaign there are goals in the side once they get playing and they will be expected to make light work of their opponents come Saturday.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have gone their last 3 games unbeaten although two of those were draws but they are scoring goals and that is always a good sign. In their last two games they have scored 8 goals which is a third of what Nottingham Forest have scored all season. Liverpool certainly enjoyed their last game as they destroyed Leeds 6-1 away from home and their last home game ended in a respectable and epic 2-2 draw against league leaders Arsenal. There is fight in this side and despite a poor campaign by their standards the Reds remain a very solid side at home. They have won 9 games from 14 and lost just once here and have picked up 11 points at home from their last 15.
Nottingham Forest travel to Liverpool in 18th place and many will believe that they are heading for their 17th defeat of the season. Of course Forest are only in the bottom three on goal difference to Everton but anyway you look at it this fixture looks like a daunting prospect. Form is poor having lost their last three with their latest game ending in a 2-0 loss to Manchester United. Away from home Forest have the worst record in the league earning just 6 points from a possible 45, losing 11 games from 15 and scoring just five goals so far, quite frankly it could hardly be worse.
Team News:
Liverpool: The Reds have no new injuries but long term include Stefan Bajcetic, Naby Keita and Calvin Ramsey who look all set to miss the rest of the season.
Nottingham Forest: Serge Aurier looks set to miss out again with a knock, Jack Colback has a head injury and won’t be risked. Gustavo Scarpa has a knee injury and looks likely to miss out again. Ryan Yates remains a doubt with a shoulder injury, Cheikhou Kouyate is set to miss out again with his hamstring, Dean Henderson is out with a thigh injury.
Liverpool vs Nottm Forest Head to Head:
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Nottingham Forest won 1-0.
The clubs have also played each other in the FA Cup this season and with the game also at Forest’s ground Liverpool won 1-0.
The teams have not faced each other when Liverpool have been at home since 1998, on that occasion the Reds won 5-1.
Liverpool vs Nottm Forest Prediction:
Liverpool are huge odds on to win this game and if they can put 2 goals past Arsenal at home and 7 past Manchester United you have to fear what they can do to Nottingham Forest who come into this game low on confidence and with very poor form. Although the Reds have been able to stun us this season with some surprise losses they have been mostly brilliant at home and we expect the same at the weekend. A home win looks a cert and the value could be on backing Klopp’s side on the handicap.
We expect to see plenty of goals and it was important in Liverpool’s last game that Darwin Nunez who has been underwhelming this season was able to come off the bench and score a goal, we have seen time and again when strikers are lacking goals and get one more follow so we will be on him. Do not be afraid to look at the defence too for a goal, this could well be one of those games where Liverpool players are lining up to score. This isn’t meant to be disrespectful to Forest but their away form is dreadfully poor and they are carrying too many injuries, we expect this game to be a whitewash.
Liverpool vs Nottm Forest Betting Tips:
Handicap: Liverpool to beat Nottingham Forest with a -1 goal start at 1.50
Anytime goalscorer: Darwin Nunez at 1.80
