England Premier League
Wednesday 31st August 2022
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: Anfield
Match Preview:
This game looks like being one of the most intriguing and explosive of the midweek fixtures. We could well be in for a mouth watering prospect as Liverpool try to recover from a slow start to the campaign.
There was of course nothing slow about the Reds this weekend as they demolished Bournemouth 9-0 at home and they get to stay at home for the second time in a row. Liverpool really needed that win and performance after losing their previous game to Manchester United and drawing their first two of the season. It was incredible that Mohamed Salah neither got on the score sheet or set up a goal and for the Egyptian much like his team has had a quiet start. So where do Liverpool go from here, are the back? Did they ever leave? But can their victory over Bournemouth kick start their season? There are many questions to be answered.
Newcastle are simply getting better and better by every passing game and with the money invested that shouldn’t be a surprise but at the same time a lot of credit needs to go to Eddie Howe who is doing a fine job and keeping things stable at the club. At the weekend the Magpies looked to be heading to their first defeat of the season but Allan Saint-Maximin scored in the final minute to claim a 1-1 draw against Wolves. Newcastle have actually drawn their last 3 games in a row but have faced stiff competition in Manchester City and Brighton and let’s not forget Newcastle are the only team so far to have taken points from the champions.
Team News:
Liverpool: Darwin Nunez is suspended, this is his last game out and he will be back at the weekend. Joel Matip is close to a return from his groin injury but might not be risked. Diogo Jota will be assessed but is still a doubt to return just yet, Curtis Jones has a muscle injury and may not return until the weekend. Naby Keita is out with a muscle injury with no fixed return date. Thiago could be assessed but is being pencilled in to return next week from his hamstring injury.
Newcastle: There are hamstring problems afoot at Newcastle- Bruno Guimaraes has a minor hamstring injury but is a doubt but could be back this weekend. Callum Wilson is out for about 10 days with his hamstring. Allan Saint-Maximin is only 50/50 make this game because of his hamstring. Emil Krafth is out long term with his knee and Jonjo Shelvey is about two months away from a return due to his hamstring.
Liverpool vs Newcastle Head to Head:
Last season this fixture finished 3-1 to Liverpool.
It’s been 12 games and seven years since Newcastle beat Liverpool and they haven’t won at Anfield in a league game since 1994.
3 of the last six meetings has finished with the correct score line of 3-1 to Liverpool.
Liverpool vs Newcastle Prediction:
Liverpool of course are the odds on favourites but some of the prices being quoted are as low as 1.25 and Newcastle has vastly improved. However the big worry for Eddie Howe’s side is that Guimaraes and Saint-Maximin could both be missing and both players impact this side greatly. It is best to check final line ups but if this is the case and with Liverpool possibly having some key players returning then we expect the Reds to get the win here. It would feel like a real statement win for Jurgen Klopp’s side because everyone understands now that Newcastle are a very good side, but Liverpool need to be bullish at home and start putting the points on the table.
Maybe too much is expected of Mohamed Salah and he is still scoring goals but his game looks a little off. That could all be redeemed within 90 minutes in this game and we will back him to score against a team where he has a good record. We expect to see an end to end game and a victory for Liverpool but there odds on price is not appealing.
Liverpool vs Newcastle Betting Tips:
