Liverpool vs Newcastle: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 3rd March 2018
Kick off at 5:30pm GMT
Venue: Anfield

Match Preview:

Liverpool have certainly had their blips under Jurgen Klopp but there is no denying that when the Reds are on full alert they still have one of the best attacking teams in the country. And the team are in great form winning 3 of their last 4 games and remaining unbeaten since their shock away loss to Swansea. Indeed that result seems to have awoken the club up, and current form has propelled them into 3rd place with a Champions League place up for grabs.

Alongside Manchester City, Liverpool remain the only club in the Premier League who are unbeaten at home. Whilst that record is impressive we have to also remember that they have drawn 6 of those games. But they have been so impressive in front of the Kop scoring 17 goals in their past five home matches, one can only wonder if the floodgates won’t open again when they take on Newcastle United in this early evening kick off.

Newcastle are currently on a four game unbeaten run, though 3 of those matches have been draws. They impressivly put Manchester United to the sword a few weeks back, but the problem for the Magpies has been their away form. They haven’t tasted victory on the road since beating Stoke on New Year’s Day.

Liverpool vs Newcastle Team News:

Liverpool: Danny Ings is rated a good chance to come back into the team as is Georginio Wijnaldum

Newcastle: Jonjo Shelvey has a chance to make the bench at the very least after his knee injury. Islam Slimani is set to come back in 10 days time

Liverpool vs Newcastle Head to Head:

Newcastle have not won at Anfield for 24 years

In the last 12 fixtures at Anfield Liverpool has failed just once not to score 2 or more goals

The last time the teams played here in 2016 the match finished 2-2

Liverpool vs Newcastle Prediction:

With Liverpool having such a commanding 5-0 first leg lead over FC Porto in their Champions League tie, they have no need to rest players this weekend against Newcastle. Therefore expect a full strength Liverpool side to be far too strong for a Newcastle side who pose very little goal threat. Newcastle will look to frustrate and play on the counter, but it's unlikely they will be able to keep the Liverpool attack out for the full 90 minutes.

Liverpool vs Newcastle Betting Tips:

Liverpool to win with a -1 goal handicap start at 1.62

Roberto Firmino to score anytime at 1.83
