Liverpool vs Man Utd: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League

Kick off at 4:30pm GMT
Venue: Anfield

Match Preview:

The two most successful teams in English history will go head to head on Sunday and this is sure to be another cracking fixture. The irony of course is that it has been an age when the clubs were playing each other and they were both going for a league title at the same time. This season neither are although Manchester United will have that right in the back of their minds. But this is more about keeping a top four spot for United and for Liverpool they are trying to reach the top four, and then of course there is the bragging rights, much to play for here then.

Liverpool’s season has mostly been a disaster for them as they come into this game in 6th place and 21 points behind the league leaders Arsenal. However the Reds have gone their last 4 games undefeated but drawing 0-0 to Crystal Palace last weekend was seen as another poor result. In midweek for long periods it looked as if another 0-0 was beint served up this time at home to Wolves but the Reds found a break through and won the game 2-0. Mohamed Salah who by his usual high standards has struggled this season got on the score sheet and that could be significant in this game and the coming weeks, fans will be hoping by scoring it will breed confidence to go forward. Liverpool could go 5th if Newcastle have lost on Saturday to Manchester City and while the Reds are 6 points from their target of 4th and Tottenham they also have a game in hand over them.

Manchester United have been on a high in the last few months and they won their first trophy in six years by winning the Carabao Cup beating Newcastle in the final. In the league confidence and results have been good and they are unbeaten in their last 4 games, winning 3 of them. They have recently beaten Leeds and Leicester and in all competitions in their last 3 games they have been able to score 7 goals and conceded none.

League wise United are in 3rd place with 49 points and are six behind Manchester City in 2nd but have a game in hand, so they could really put the pressure on Pep Guardiola’s team by keeping up their winning consistency. They are 11 points behind Arsenal and that does seem a stretch to catch them up at this point. Tottenham could well go just 1 point behind United if they win and United drop points here so there many possible outcomes coming out of this weekend and this game in particular.

In midweek like Liverpool Manchester United were playing due to their involvement in the FA Cup and after going a goal down at home to West Ham they came back and won 3-1 to keep the good times rolling.

Liverpool vs Man Utd Prediction:

Liverpool will be rocking on Sunday as the fans try to generate an atmosphere to unhinge Manchester United. Certainly the players will be upping their game as they try to continue recent good form in the league and go for 4th. Manchester United look like they have climbed several levels in a very short space of time and with 39 points to play for they will still believe that a league title challenge is on the cards, we have seen how quickly circumstances can change.

The value is with United and even though they have a recent poor record away to Liverpool they are playing the better football and if they score first this could send the Reds into a panic of confusion. This is a good time to be playing Liverpool and even if they are in a some form they have really made some heavy weather of their games lately and one has to wonder if, at this time, they will be able to deal with the pace and attacking options that United have in their armour? This should be fun.
