Liverpool vs Leicester: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Thursday 10th February 2022
Kick off at 7:45pm GMT
Venue: Anfield

Match Preview:

Simply put Liverpool cannot afford to drop points and they will need to be on the front foot in this game from the first whistle.

The Reds who are looking to win the league again after their 2020 triumph are in 2nd place but coming into this week are 9 points behind league leaders Manchester City, and that could well be 12 by the time this game kicks off. The good news is that Liverpool will have 2 games in hand over City, plus they have to play them at some point, this title looks over but isn’t quite.

As for form Jurgen Klopp’s side beat Cardiff at the weekend in the FA Cup and have won their last 2 games. The Reds last defeat ironically came in this reverse fixture at the end of December. Leicester will be the big underdogs here and you can see why when you look at Liverpool’s excellent home record where they have won 70% of their games and are unbeaten so far. They have the joint best home defensive record conceding just six goals and have scored six goals in their last two home games.

For Leicester there were plenty of blushes at the weekend as the FA Cup holders were sent crashing out of the competition as they exited to Nottingham Forest. Surprises can happen but not like this and the Foxes were ran out of town losing the game 4-1 in the end. It was a real shock and Leicester haven’t been too clever in the league also with just one victory from their last four games. Their last league game finished in a 1-1 draw against Brighton and the club come into this game in 10th place with 26 points. They are a good 10 points behind where they thought they would be and this has been an overall disappointing season for the club.

Team News:

Liverpool: Luis Diaz has a gashed leg but is being tipped to be fine for this game. Sadio Mane will return back from international duty but it is unsure if he will be ready for this game, it is the same for Mohamed Salah. Divock Origi could return but has some fitness issues and will be assessed.

Leicester: Ryan Bertrand is out with a knee injury. Timothy Castagne is not back until next month as he has a thigh injury. Jonny Evans is about 5 weeks away with a hamstring injury. Wesley Fofana is out with his long term leg injury but could be back soon. Jamie Vardy is another 3-4 weeks away as he has a hamstring injury.

Liverpool vs Leicester Head to Head:

The clubs played each other here in December in the EFL Cup and the game finished 3-3.

Last season Liverpool won this fixture 3-0.

Liverpool have won 7 of the last ten meetings against Leicester.

There is a 70% chance to see both teams to score.

Liverpool vs Leicester Prediction:

Liverpool are around 1.20 to win this so that offers no value at all and perhaps the price shouldn’t be that huge. Liverpool have dropped some points along the way but have been solid at home but over the years Leicester have given their all against the Reds and been able to upset them. The problem for Leicester is that Jamie Vardy is missing and they have had key players missing in important positions all season it feels like that.

It will be interesting to see if Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah play some part so soon after starring in the Africa Cup of Nations final. Of course Mane won it with Senegal and Salah was a runner up, so imagine how those two will be feeling and now they will be thrust straight back into the Premier League title chase, that is never easy.

As the game goes on Liverpool have the tools to hurt Leicester and this is what we think we will see. Luis Diaz the new signing looked lively and he might be worth backing to get his debut league goal for the Reds. Expect Diogo Jota to be up for this game too.
