England Premier League
Wednesday 3rd May 2023
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: Anfield
Match Preview:
It was one of those magic days at Anfield at the weekend as Liverpool beat Tottenham 4-3 but not before a few scares and this was a game that could have easily finished in a 3-3 draw despite the Reds racing into a three goal lead. But this win has summed up Liverpool’s season in 90 minutes, and you never quite know what will come next. This lack of consistency has been their Achilles heel because there has always been a top four team struggling within themselves since August. However at home Liverpool have remained solid and they will certainly be the odds on favourites to make light work of Fulham when they clash on Wednesday evening.
European football did not feel like a guarantee for Liverpool for the majority of the season but they have put enough wins together in the past month to make it a reality and have now climbed up to 5th place and have 56 points. The Reds have won 4 games in a row and while Europa League football looks like a more realistic option Champions League football cannot be ruled out although Jurgen Klopp’s side are 7 points adrift of 4th placed Manchester United and have played a game more. Liverpool would certainly need to win all of their remaining games to be in with a chance and hope that Manchester United drop points.
Fulham’s European chances look well and truly over but they have still had a terrific season and gave Manchester City a scare at the weekend before losing out in a game that finished only 2-1 to City. It did mark two defeats in a row for the Cottagers who sit in 10th place with 45 points and their objective will be to finish the season in the top half of the table. The Cottagers have blown hot and cold on the road however they do have the seventh best record away from home after winning 20 of 48 points however form has taken a left turn and they have lost 3 of their last four games. Their last away game ended in a 1-0 loss to Aston Villa.
Team News:
Liverpool: Roberto Firmino is set to miss out again due to a muscle injury but should be back by the weekend if this is the case. Naby Keita will be assessed due to a lack of match fitness.
Fulham: Andreas Pereira has a leg injury and will miss out, Tim Ream is out for the season after breaking his arm in the Manchester City fixture. Willian could return from a hamstring injury but will be assessed. Aleksandar Mitrovic is serving his ban and is not due back for another 2 weeks.
Liverpool vs Fulham Head to Head:
Last season Fulham shocked Liverpool by winning this fixture 1-0.
Earlier in the season the teams drew 2-2.
It’s been 4 years since Liverpool beat Fulham however they have won 6 of the last 9 meetings.
There is a 50% chance to see over 3.5 goals.
Liverpool vs Fulham Prediction:
Liverpool are still like a rollercoaster but the good news is that even though they remain unpredictable and unstable they are winning games now and they are also scoring goals. At home however it has felt like business as usual and we expect the Reds to get a convincing victory. After the Tottenham win the stadium was buzzing but at the same time as the dust settles Klopp will understand that his team were let off the hook by a mistake and you can’t go 3 goals up at home and be pegged back like that. Lessons are still being learned even in late April by Liverpool and this season has felt like a write off for them. But they can forge ahead and we believe they can score a few goals too. It has been encouraging to see Luis Diaz come back from injury and score again and the team will want a strong finish. Fulham won here last season and they are a very decent side but we can only see one winner here and we should also see a few goals.
