Liverpool vs Everton: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 2nd December 2018
Kick off at 4:15pm GMT
Venue: Anfield

Match Preview:

The Merseyside derby is still one of the most important games in world football and with Everton starting so well this season there is added spice to this game on Sunday.

Liverpool will have the infamous Kop behind them at Anfield and are chasing their first league title since 1990. They have been impressive in the league with 10 wins from 13 games and remain unbeaten.

The draw to Manchester City was the only points Liverpool have dropped at Anfield this season, but they haven’t had a great week after losing in Paris to PSG in the Champions League. Their competition now hangs by a thread and they must beat Napoli in a few weeks time to have any chance, otherwise the Europa League and Thursday night football awaits.

Everton look to have a different mindset under Marco Silva which is important for this fixture. We could accuse the club of losing games in the past to Liverpool in the head and before a ball has even be kicked. This time it feels different.

The Toffees have climbed up to 6th place and are unbeaten in their last 3 games. Last weekend they beat Cardiff 1-0 and Silva’s team would be in the top 4 sides in the league based on recent form.

Away from home the story is different where they have lost 50% of their matches and won just 1 all season. Everton have won just 27% of their points on the road and would be 13th in the league based on away form only. Their one win away came against Leicester almost 2 months ago.

Team News:

Liverpool: Jordan Henderson is suspended after being sent off against Watford. Adam Lallana could return after a muscle injury. As could Dominic Solanke with his minor groin problem which kept him out of the PSG game

Everton: No new injuries ahead of the derby for Everton.

Head to Head:

Last season Liverpool won this fixture 2-1.

Everton have not won at Anfield this century. The last being a 1-0 win in 1999.

Everton have not beaten Liverpool in any competition since 2010.

3 of the last 4 games have seen both teams to score.

Prediction:

Liverpool will start as favourites but not having Jordan Henderson is a big blow for them. They will still be feeling the effects of their Paris loss too. The key for Everton is keeping Mohamad Salah and Roberto Firmino quiet if they can do that they might just be able to pull off what some would see as a surprise result. It would be fitting for the blue half of Merseyside to see Liverpool’s unbeaten record go against them. Liverpool certainly are not worth the price of 1.44 to win the game and the value does seem to be with Everton.
