England Premier League
Saturday 28th August 2021
Kick off at 5:30pm BST
Venue: Anfield
Match Preview:
What a huge game we have in store for Saturday evening as Liverpool the 2020 champions and 2019 Champions League winners take on Chelsea who will go for the league title this season and are the current Champions League holders.
Liverpool have started the season in commanding fashion beating Norwich 3-0 away from home on the opening weekend of the season and then beating a determined Burnley side 2-0 at Anfield.
What will be encouraging for manager Jurgen Klopp is that his attackers are scoring again and Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane have all scored at least one goal so far and dare we think it but Liverpool look back to their best level so far, though of course this will be a huge test for them.
Chelsea have also won their opening two games beating Crystal Palace 3-0 and then defeating Arsenal away from home in a 2-0 victory and that means that both of these sides have yet to concede. They have played some epic games between each other and this is simply going to be quite a mouth watering tie. In the past we have seen plenty of goals from both sets of sides but at the same time a few 0-0’s too but even those games have been full of quality and that should be plenty on display at the weekend.
Team News:
Liverpool: James Milner could return after his minor knock. Fabinho missed the last game due to personal reasons and may return for this one.
Chelsea: Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Christian Pulisic are doubts because of illness and there will be a late decision to include them in then match squad.
Liverpool vs Chelsea Head to Head:
Last season Chelsea won this fixture 1-0 that was Chelsea’s first win in the league at Anfield since 2014.
There is a 60% chance to see under 2.5 goals.
Liverpool have won 5 of the last seven meetings against Chelsea.
Liverpool vs Chelsea Prediction:
When Liverpool were at their absolute best teams could not come to Anfield and win games, and there is a sense that the Reds are trying to repeat that slowly but surely. It’s still not possible to know if they can or not but just having Virgil van Dijk back in defence seems to have changed the mind set of the club, knowing there is that security at the back.
Chelsea have started strongly but they haven’t really been tested, not even Arsenal away from home is a test for the Blues right now, this is why this match is very anticipated. The headlines are all going to be about their new star signing in Romelu Lukaku who wasted no time in scoring for the Blues on his return last weekend and this could turn into the Lukaku vs van Dijk. But the winner of this game could come from midfield and on the face of it Chelsea’s look the stronger with the likes of N’Golo Kante and Jorginho holding rank, this will be quite a match.
Both teams have the qualities to win this one and there is usually a winner, but we just have the feeling both teams will be more concerned about not losing and therefore this game could end in a draw.
