Liverpool vs Burnley: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 21st August 2021
Kick off at 12:30pm BST
Venue: Anfield

Match Preview:

It would have gone unnoticed last weekend on the opening day of the season when Liverpool beat Norwich 3-0 but that win was absolutely huge for the Reds. It was an expected win and the score does not seem out of place, the usual suspects in Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino got on the score sheet too. However, it was a significant win and every one this season will be to erase the scars of last season.

The fact that Salah scored is also significant, strikers need goals, that breeds confidence and manager Jurgen Klopp will understand his team need to hit the new season running and all of the boxes were ticked in their victory over Norwich including, of course a clean sheet.

So Liverpool enter this game against Burnley as the odds on favourites and this match is also a significant one. This will be the first time that Liverpool will play in their own stadium with a full set of supporters since they won the league, and we should expect quite an atmosphere.

Burnley lost their first game of the new campaign at home to Brighton despite taking the lead through James Tarowski. That would have hurt but as the game went on Brighton looked the better side. It’s never a great sign though to lose your first game of a new season and at home and this will be an incredibly difficult match for Sean Dyche’s team even if they did win here last season.

Team News:

Liverpool: Curtis Jones has a head injury and will be assessed but is a doubt for this game. Andrew Robertson is out with an ankle injury and will be missing for the next 3 weeks.

Burnley: Kevin Long is out with his Achilles and Dale Stephens has an ankle injury.

Liverpool vs Burnley Head to Head:

Last season Burnley shocked Liverpool with a 1-0 win at this ground.

The last time the clubs played though Liverpool won 3-0 away.

There is a 60% chance to see both teams to score.

Liverpool vs Burnley Prediction:

Liverpool should ease to victory here and it would be a major surprise to see any other result. There is confidence in the team, they just kept a clean sheet, they are already scoring goals and the roar of the Kop is back.

Backing Liverpool then has little value and the better choice could be to back the home side to be winning at half time and full time. We expect to see a few goals, and do not expect to see much from Burnley who will just be happy to keep the score down to a respectable number.

Liverpool vs Burnley Betting Tips:
